9/24/17. On tap at Growler Country. Orange pour with a nice khaki head, good lacing. Nice aroma, coffee melds well with some citrus and pine from the hops. Good flavor, coffee, citrus, some caramel and pale malts. Tasty enough.

(Draught at Craft & Draft, Amsterdam, 25 Feb 2017) Reddish amber colour with dense, beige head. Malty, roasted nose with notes of coffee, citrus and more coffee. Malty, hoppy taste with coffee, citrus, grapefruit, orange peel and a generous citric bitterness. Medium body, with a slight sweetness. Tasty and quite interesting, with lots of coffee and a fresh citric hop character. Nice one.

Smells of sweet (sugared) coffee.. color is very nice, dark amber brown. Taste is a very nice balance of coffee and hops, almost perfect. tastes clean, not strange. I like it.

Tap @Bootleggers, Cph. Pours clear amber red with a small, staying creamy white film head. Aroma has caramel, coffee, light citrus hops. Medium carbonation, fine dry and quite creamy mouthfeel. Flavour has sweet malts, caramel, fat dry coffee. Heavy bitterness from both coffee and hops. Feels a bit rough, really.

10-MAR-2017, draft @Bootleggers Craft Bar, with Morten. Hazy amber with a lasting, lacing, off-white head. Roast and hops. I like coffee, I like IPAs but the combination never wins. Even though the coffee is not overpowering, it is ruining the IPA. Still well-made.

Tap, Rivermill BB. Dark amber, clear, head doesnt stay around long. Aroma of coffee, hops; taste is coffee, hops, some bitterness on back end. Dont know how much I like this, the coffee is there but Im not finding it harmonious.

The coffee IPA thing can be a little weird to wrap your head around, but theres some things that make sense about this fad. Earth and citrus flavor profiles appear in both hops and beans. If a brewer can exploit those characteristics in while brewing beer and brewing coffee, the results can be highly interesting at the very least. Otherwise, you end with some damned muddy concoction that royally sucks. Rogue is one of the chosen few that goes beyond being just interesting. Its a great beer in its own right. Roasty, floral, and citrusy nose. Flavor follows along with some bright fresh hop/coffee sensations - earthy and bitter. Weird yet tasty.
