Ceramic flip top bottle rbsg. Pours out brown topped with a tan head. Nose is sweet malts caramel pit fruit some candy. Taste is more of the heavy dose of sweetness and pit fruit. stevoj (5440) - Boise, Idaho, USA - JUL 31, 2017
Bottle share at RBSG 17 grand tasting. Dark brown body with small ring of beige head. Caramel malts, dark roast grains, molasses, pit fruit. Taste amps up the pit fruit and molasses, adds some bitterness, and dirty notes. Maybe past its prime.

Somehow missed rating this one. Got for christmas in 2011, opened circa spring 2012. Caramel barleywine, no real sweetness. I remembered it seeming quite boozy for the claimed 7.6%. This was probably the best (rather only decent) beer I’ve had from Rogue. Patrickctenchi (6693) - Cox’s Knob, columbus, Indiana, USA - MAR 11, 2014
Bottle: 750 ml ceramic swingtop
Pours deep brown with a dark tan ring.
Caramel, dark bread, dark fruit aroma.
Taste is toasty, woody, brown sugar, dark bitter fruit...prune....raisin...
Sweet and malty with a good earthy bitter finish.
Very nice. alexsdad06 (10672) - West Chester, Ohio, USA - AUG 14, 2013
750 ml bottle shared by phaleslu. Pours a cola brown color with a large khaki colored head. The aroma and flavor oad a big dose of sweet caramel, some roast, mild dark fruit, and an oaky and lightly herbal note to the finish. A touch thin, but smooth. Worth trying once, but I wouldn’t seek this out.

Bottle shared by phaleslu. Poured clear ruby color with an average frothy brown head that mostly lasted and produced fair lacing. Moderate to heavy complex toasted malt, hop and small alcohol aroma. Medium to full body with a smooth texture and soft carbonation. Medium balanced sweet flavor with a medium sweet finish of moderate duration. This is a solid beer. 750ml swingtop, shared by phaleslu. Clear brown color. Thin light brown, very bubbly head. Decent lace. Very nutty aroma. Really nice nose. Light chocolate. Medium to bigger body. Creamy. Smooth texture. Very light carbonation. Light sweet taste. Nice nutty aftertaste. Good, interesting stuff. I can see how this would pair well with cheese. phaleslu (10553) - Cincinnati, Ohio, USA - APR 21, 2013
750 ml ceramic swing-top bottle from dbsdelight- thanks again, Dan! Pours a clear mahogany color with a moderately sized beige head. Big caramel on the aroma with plenty of dark fruits, then boozy bread and toasted brown sugar. Flavor of leaves, caramel, toast, earth, chocolate, some fruity esters, and an almost oaky note late. Light-bodied, with low carbonation and a sweet, smooth, thin mouthfeel. Probably has fallen off in the past three years, as the mouthfeel feels thinned and carbonation is all but gone. But not bad. b3shine (9079) - Indiana, USA - APR 20, 2013
Big swing top to snifter (thanks phaleslu). Looks solid; a transparent brown with off-white lacing. Smells solid too; malt, booze, caramel, and toffee. Tastes like it smells with a nice, smooth mouthfeel. Good beer. DocLock (10973) - Lower Pottsgrove, Pennsylvania, USA - MAR 2, 2013
750 ceramic black swing top bottle from Capone’s. Pours dark brownish black with tan head that laces well. Nose is very pruney, plummy, earthy brown sugary, with cacao, dark malt. Tastes pruney, earthy brown sugary, wirh roasty semi-charred malts, and some late heat. Nothing special here, and I’d like to see Rogue stop mailing it in, especially for a 75th anniversary beer.
