750ml Bottle. The pour was a thick deep dark black with a large (2-3 finger) medium cocoa brown creamy head that reduced slowly, down to a thick puddled film with a medium collar and produced absolutely great drippy sticky lacing. The aroma right up front was all about the chocolate with a bold roasted malt and a heavy doughy yeast along with notes of chocolate of course (dark and milk), roasted coffee and a slight hint of vanilla that was just barely noticeable. The taste was really fantastic with a nice thick maltiness and a milk chocolate sweetness from the get go, becoming a just tad bitter with a mild coffee presence and a big dose of bitter chocolate towards the finish. The flavor lasted for an extremly long time following the swallow, with the chocolate taste fading away and leaving behind a mild bitter roastiness to linger for a while longer. Mouthfeel was full in body with an exceptionally creamy texure and a soft carbonation. Overall this is one fantastic tasting brew!! It possesses a ton of roasty chocolate flavor along with a mild smooth bitterness, which together does an awesome job of totally concealing the high ABV, making this a very easy to drink and extremely enjoyable brew...

750mL bottle from Whole Foods (Charlottesville, VA). Aromas of fudge brownie, dark milk chocolate. Black with a mostly lasting beige head. Dry, roasty, bittersweet chocolate flavors, a roasty bitterness. Full bodied with a lingering bittersweet chocolatey bitterness.

Chocolate-y, creamy stout. It hits the nose immediately with a head of deep roasted malt and cocoa. It’s pretty intense, in the same vein as freshly ground coffee beans. The smooth swirling body builds into a lasting creaminess that unfortunately never quite lives up to the promise of the aroma. Still very good though. Not a fan of most of Rogue’s stuff, but this one is a pleasant exception. Pair with Gerry Mulligan. Alternatively, have this at the Great Beer Bar with the girl from Alice Porter and spend the next month regretting your decision to ever tell how you thought you felt.

Bottle thanks to søren. Pours black with a beige head. Aroma of.. Yes chocolate. Vanilla, dark sweet malts, caramel and brownie. Taste of chocolate cake, vanilla, dark sweet malts, fudge and slight roasted malts..pretty one sided but pretty good.

Bottle from BevMo! in Menlo Park, CA. Aroma is chocolate, cocoa, mild cinnamon. Taste is chocolate, dry cocoa, cocoa cereal... honestly this was a bit thinner than expected. Reminded me of a mildly chocolate Brown Ale.

Not a big fan of this one. Leans too far on the sweet side, mixing a deep milk chocolate core with honey and anise, leading to a growing syrupy backbone that gets stronger as the pint warms. Pine-and-mocha bitterness comes through on the back end, but the sweetness never quite abates. Thin texture doesn’t feel all that imperial, and the pour’s mediocre as well, coming out black but watery and almost head-free. Not bad per se, but kind of a bummer; I had high hopes for this bottle. (Love the packaging.)

Chocolate in your face even when cold. Very velvety and smooth. Hints of cinnamon when warm. Great beer. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Dark brown. Thin head. Big choc syrup, sweet and syrupy but a bit thin. So just thin base beer with bland Hershey syrup in it.

Draught at Alibi Room, Vancouver
Black color with beige head. Mild roasted malt aroma, rosty mouthfeel, very dry, with chocolate and ashes.
Really disappointed by the lack of sugars, not as pleasant as I was expecting.

Draft - Insane amounts of dark chocolate syrup. Jet black brown with a decent light brown head. Crazy chocolate syrup notes with a long finish. Exactly what it claims to be.
