Caramel, ginger and citrus aroma. Nice caramel malt taste, with enough west coast hops to excite the palate, some nuts and a nice bitterness in post taste. WabashMan (1024) - Noblesville, Indiana, USA - DEC 1, 2003
Maybe the amber ales I've had before just weren't that good, because this has completely changed my outlook on the style. A nice DARK copper color and a big light tan head, good hops character in the nose and flavor, and a long aftertaste that isn't all malt, as they often are. Really an eye opener, from the always impressive Rogue brewery. SiddFinch (155) - Pen Argyl, Pennsylvania, USA - NOV 26, 2003
Brown/red. Plenty of underlying malt with a mild hoppy finish. There is a mustiness to this that just won't grow on me. JPDIPSO (6262) - Wauwatosa, USA - NOV 24, 2003
Chestnut color with a small dense head of beige bubbles. Heavy malt and mild citrus aroma. Heavy malt (dark earth caramel) backed by hops that offset the sweetness and leaves a spicy finish. heykevin (1281) - Decorah, Iowa, USA - NOV 21, 2003
Decent, but light hop aroma. Some sweet caramel, with grainy flavor too. Decent finish.

OK bought in the 22 oz bomber with a rather cool looking "saint" on the screen printed label.
This beer certainlly surprised me in how it looked..deep dark red almost brown with a nice sized tan coloured head that shrunk to leave great lacing.
Great smell of lightly roasted and chocolate style malts..smell the hopping also.
nice tasteing beer..nice sweet chocolaty taste to begin then a slight bitterness..theres a sort of "zingy" after taste which I like also.
Nice and smooth on the tongue..nice after taste .
Very easy drinking beer..a good summer beer in my opinion Slick (1969) - Thief River Falls, Minnesota, USA - NOV 16, 2003
Good dark red/brown color,Medium sized white head that lasted for a decent amount of time.Malty chocolate aroma with hints of fruit and caramel. The taste was pretty decent fruity and hoppy with a lightly malty side, mildly sweet and quite good all around. The after taste is hoppy and fruity. This was a very good beer better then i thought it would be.well worth getting a few more wchich i'm glad to say i did. whaleman (2178) - North Wales, Pennsylvania, USA - NOV 10, 2003
Large foamy off-white head and clear red body. Nice malt and spice nose. Malty amber flavor followed with significant hops in the finish. Strong pine and spice presence here. A good amber... but still just an amber. Ernest (7793) - Boulder, Colorado, USA - NOV 9, 2003
Head is initially average sized, frothy, off-white, mostly diminishing.
Body is hazy dark amber.
Aroma lightly malty (toasted bread, caramel),
moderately hoppy (grapefruit, resin),
with a note of toffee.
Flavor is moderately sweet, moderately acidic, lightly bitter.
Finish is lightly sweet, moderately acidic, moderately bitter.
Medium body, watery texture, lively carbonation, lightly astringent. MartinT (10037) - Montreal, Quebec, CANADA - NOV 7, 2003
Delicate, sweet chocolate leaves rooted in agreeable C-hop vitality...Delicious berry amalgation with the intermittent salutation of a yogurt undercurrent...A pleasant session where well-balanced, lemongrassy, citrusy hops incessantly make you long for more...
