Bottle 65 cl. Pours pretty close to black with a vague orange hue and a smallish beige head. Serious roasty nose, even a whiff of smoke. Medium body, bitter chocolate and heavy coffee roast. Not all that bitter, but the roast adds a massive almost coffeeish astringency. Loads of flavour for a Schwarzbier. 280712 Beerhunter111 (23281) - Beerland, GERMANY - SEP 25, 2014
Ins Glas ergießt sich ein schwarzes Bier mit schöner braunen Schaumkrone. Geruch sehr röstmalzig, Kaffee, Schokolade, Vanille. Geschmack schokoladig, röstmalzig, Kaffee, minimal rauchig, sehr gut! Leighton (22820) - London, Greater London, ENGLAND - MAR 25, 2010
Bottle. Reminded me of an imperial stout. Poured tar black, thick, with a beige head. Big nose of roasted malts, coffee and light chocolate. Very rich flavor. Sweet malts blend nicely with some smoky notes. Medium to big in body with moderate carbonation. Pretty smooth. Lingering Mocha aftertaste. I want to have this beer again. Black color; creamy head. Roasted malt aroma, some chocolate. Smooth mouthfeel, with rich chocolate flavor, then roasted malt; indeed in the final the roastiness is too much.
Very good overall.
22 oz. bottle, pours black with a medium tan head. Aroma of roasted malts, wood, light licorice and light cocoa. Flavour is medium-bodied, with roasted notes, licorice and dark fruits - finishes with a red wine quality. Very nice indeed. saxo (19583) - Højbjerg, Aarhus, DENMARK - MAY 18, 2012
Bottle Huge creamy head with excellent duration. Color is black. Aroma and taste are rich caramel, smoky notes, bacon, chocolate, roast malt and hops. Great beer. harrisoni (19553) - Ashford, Kent, ENGLAND - AUG 10, 2012
Bottle from GBBF 2012. Black beer with big thick tan head. Authentic choccy schwarz aroma. After that things turn more American. Big huge everything afterwards. Aroma a bit like the Klosterbrau schwarz from Bamberg on draught. But the malts are thicker in the mouth here. More hops too. More bitter on the finish. Good thick malty bitter black lager. If anything it just doesn’t need so much bitterness. Good go at the style though. Very impressive. I find this very approachable. Choc is good, bitterness is good, but because it’s a lager it’s still light and agile. Big fan of this. Yep pretty damn good. Oakes (19426) - Vancouver, British Columbia, CANADA - APR 6, 2012
Dark brown body with a dark brown head. Rich chocolatey aromas with earthy African sugars and malted milk. Has a nice earthy chocolatey character and lots of bitterness. Not really a schwarzbier per se, but a different and very taste take on a black lager. rlgk (18843) - Göteborg, SWEDEN - SEP 28, 2012
SBWF 2012. Pitch black beer with a brown head. Chocolate aroma, cocoa, roasted, bready, peat, vanilla, hay, toffee notes, some pepper. Tar flavor, peat, hay, dark chocolate, roasted, figs, woody notes, ash, dry. Really pleasant. A schwarzbier with porter like flavors. Really good.
