Weird texture, almost too carbonated, enough to make me wonder if I have a bad bottle. Spicy rye hits almost immediately, then transitions into an apple-laced creamy middle with hints of peat and smoke, touched by the lightest bit of coffee and a mild herbal hop backbone. Keg Half Pint at White Horse American Beer Festival 2015, Parsons Green, London in July 2015 - Dark Brown in colour. Malty; roasty grainy malts, caramel, smoke notes. Spicy rye. Earthy. Yeasty. Fruity; slight dark fruits, banana. Hoppy; grassy hops. Initially, sweetish roast malty fruity becoming increasingly bitter and dry into the finish. (2015-07-06)

22oz bottle. Poured a brown color with a smaller sized off white head. Bready, some smokiness, some rye in there, and some roastiness.

Medium dark brown pour with tan foam. Decent lacing. Aromas of dark pumpernickel bread - so spicy. Earthy/spruce and some smokiness as well. Taste is grainy with a sourness overriding. Light in body with decent carbonation. Finish left a prolonged astringency which (for me) was not that pleasant. May need to try this again to see if it is the same result. Pours a medium, well retained, light beige head, with Belgian curtain lacing, over a clear, initially, later cloudy, dark brown (SRM 25) body......nose is heavy rye, hints of cocoa, light banana/bubblegum, slight herbal hops........taste is heavy rye, very light banana/bubblegum, no clove, cocoa, finishing with a moderate herbal bitterness.......mouth feel, medium body, no alcohol, carbonation makes a creamy mouthful. This is a nice Roggenbier ignoring the Rogue pun. The yeast contribution is a bit low for the style, but it is otherwise a good representation. Perhaps a yeast change would improve. Half pint from Urban TapHouse in Cardiff (not necessarily best source). Pours a very dark brown with a thin sandy off-White head. Aroma is very grainy and smokey, low to none hop aroma. Slightly muddy aroma. Taste is smokey caramel. It’s like charcoal and crystal malts. Not an awful lot of rye coming through but a moderately spicy rye note underpinning the smoke. Smooth and drinkable but distinctly average.
