Bottle at NHC. Pours a deep mahogany with reddish highlights, tannish head. Nose is smokey with caramel and moderate esters, low phenol notes. Cloves and fruit with the smoke. on tasting, surprising level of smoke. Toasty malts, mid caramel and clean, though does have that weizen yeast profile. Elle est brune très foncée avec des reflets rougeâtres et présente une dentelle travaillée. Au nez on perçoit des arômes d’épices, d’herbes, de céréales, de seigle, de romarin ou encore de thym. C’est plutôt agréable à humer. En bouche, ce n’est pas aussi prononcé que ses odeurs, quoique plaisant aussi. C’est plus effacé et ça ne bouscule rien. Bottle: pours a dark murky brown with a light tan head. Aroma of bread and smoke. The flavor hits you with smoke, and I wish there would have been more of a rye spiciness that I was craving, but all in all, this is a nice solid beer... tasty for sure.

Pours amber-brown with a medium off white head. Of all the rye beers I’ve had, this one smells like rye, but not much else. Taste is an even blend of rye and hops - neither overwhelming with a lightly bitter finish. Bottled sample. Dark brown in colour with medium carbonation. Aromas are of wheat, bubblegum, whole wheat bread dough, sulfur, woodsmoke and molasses. The smoke element (specifically Alder according to my tastebuds) is far more assertive in the mouth, and is well supported by bready malt and minty hop flavors. I didn’t get a whole lot of that tangy quality that rye tends to bring to the table. Pours a dark reddish brown with a soft tan head. It has a grainy aroma with a sharp and distinct rye malt bill. The beer is very grainy with little malt sweetness to it.
