I thoroughly enjoyed this beer. The smoky aroma reminded me of camping: it was a perfect mix of forest and smoke aromas. The taste was unique, with mild flavors, a nice crisp finish, and a light mouthfeel. It was different from many rye beers so it was not what I expected, but it was a pleasant experience all the same.

Bottle from Slowbeer. Great malty beer. Aromas of caramel, grain, wine, nuts. Taste is sweet, with light bitterness, and long length. Palate is velvety and medium bodied. Brown, with a frothy head.

Bomber. I bought this mostly because the ingredient list includes smoked malt! Pours mahogany with a large-ish beige head with good retention; leaves sheeting lace on the glass. Aroma is nutty, earthy, roasty, a bit fruity...kind of stinky, but not in a bad way. Taste is a little smoky, roasty and spicy and finishes with a little bitterness and licorice. Body is medium-full, carbonation average, mouthfeel creamy. I like it.

Digging this one. Mellow. Smooth. Surprisingly syrupy. Malty goodness -- recommended!

I thought this was pretty nice. A beautiful brown with a nice head, the flavor is a little different but surprisingly smooth.

Bottle. Pours a hazy and rather dark brown with a fairly small off-white head. Nose is quite hoppy, actually, with some fairly strong grain notes in there. Taste is strongly grainy from the rye, yet remains remarkably clean. Good brew.

Poured one finger of head on a hazy brown colored body. The aroma was a dull barnyard smell. Not bad, but not really great either. The taste had a solid rye spice to it with moderate bitterness. Pretty good. The texture was crisp with moderate carbonation. An enjoyable drink.

On keg at the Bow Bar. Appearance - chestnut with some orange chinks. Nice head. Nose - brown bread, light smoke. A hint of dried fruit. Taste - big dried fruit cake thing. Lovely smoky backdrop. Palate - medium bodied with a creamy texture and a balanced dry finish. Overall - reminds me of Schlenkerla Fastenbier. Delicious.

Keg at the bow bar. Pours deep brown, nose is chocolate, toffee, malty, taste is similar, rich, sweet, caramel, light fruit.

Single bottle purchased from Kensington Wine Market in Calgary, AB on 12/24/2102. Colour: Dark brown with healthy stark white creamy head. Nose: Caramel malt, peanut butter, grainy hops, touch of dark mustard. Taste: Medium-light sweet, medium-light bitter, medium-light sour. Pretty standard mix of hops and malt through to mid palate, but then a zesty and crisp rye grain takes grip late to the finish. A puff of curious sour apple on the dying end as well.
