A SAISON FOR THE FESTIVE SEASON! Made with traditional farm house brewing methods from the Flanders region of Belgium. A unique Belgian yeast coupled with avaiable spices, Belgian malts and European hops deliver a delightfully pleasant Belgian-style Saison. FestivAle is made from Weyerman Pilsner Malt, Belgian Malted Wheat, Saaz Hops, Grains of Paradise, Ginger Root, Sweet Gale, and Curacao Orange. No Chemicals, Additives or Preservatives. Measurements: 14.5 degrees plato, 18 IBUs, 12 AA, 8.5 lovibond, 6.2 ABV

From Dec 2005 Poured from bottle with a huge head that dissipated quickly into a fine ring around the edge of the glass. The beer is a cloudy medium gold with a pungent smell...maybe sour fruit? The taste has the sour fruit notes I mentioned mixed with an evident flavour of alcohol. The sourness persists through the aftertaste. Hmmm. I don't know if I'd buy this one again....I'll have to reflect on that for a while.

"really? this is supposed to be a saison? i’ll score it even lower for not even distinguishing itself enough to get the style right. i thought it was just an un-tasty badly spiced ale (which it still is)...not a good saison, or beer."

Bottle. I had had one of these years ago, and was pleased when I got another. Spicy aroma, yellow orange colour with a medium head. Enough lacing. Lekker spicy flavour and spicy finish. Baie Dankie Pieter!

This pours a hazy bright orange topped with voluminous frothy khaki head that leaves light lacing. The aroma is filled with spice. There’s coriander and pepper smells (I’m guessing from the Grains of Paradise) along with some lightly fruity malt. The flavor is also dominated by the considerable spice. I can’t pick out the ginger root but the orange peel is quite evident in the middle of the spice. Some sweet fruity malt. Quite big flavors. Not too sweet as the spice tend to dry the palate a bit. Spices dominate the finish and aftertaste. This is clearly the best American brewed Saison I’ve ever tasted.

Had a bomber at just about its "Drink By" date. Medium golden with a big fluffy head that went to lace quickly. Very fruity, herbal aroma, with honey, apples, ginger. A bit too much in the herb department. Same for the flavor. It was nice enough, but too herbal, too sweet. Interesting take on a saison, but not as good as the standards.

Sampled 12/26/2005.

Not sure when I had this, but rating is from an old note: bottle. cloudy orange pour with a huge head. musky earthy aroma of honey and spice. herbal sweet peppery taste. wasn’t my favorite as far as rogues go. would have to try again for a more complete rate.

Appearance: Pours out a hazy, golden body with a frothy, white head that drops down to a thin covering fairly quickly. Smell: Sweet-scented bouquet of lightly spiced, oven-baked cookies and grains with a ladle full of honey and almond syrup on the side. Taste: Sweet taste of honey-coated cookies and crisp wheat crackers with a hint of background citrus. Slight almond accents. The once glaring spice component has toned down in the two or so years, leaving just a nice level of zesty spice. No apparent hop character or remaining bitterness. Sweet, succulent finish. Mouthfeel: Medium-plus body. Medium carbonation. Smooth mouthfeel. Drinkability: Boy, oh boy, did I ever dislike this beer when initially released. Frankly, I though it a complete mess; a weak attempt at a saison with an unpleasant spice component. Now, though, it’s aged into a smooth, mellow, sweetish brew.

Bottle. Pours an orange amber body with a tan head. Spicy with hints of herbs, grass, apples and ginger. Lightly spicy and doesn’t come together to great. Eh not so good.

22oz bottle. Pours orange amber, topped with a big frothy white head. Sharp, spicy aroma, with wheat, grain, and citrus, especially orange. Flavor is somewhat musty, with notes of spice, grain, earth, herbs, citrus, and white pepper. A bit thin bodied. Not bad, but it really doesn’t stand out.
