12oz. bottle from Rogue Alehouse in Portland, Oregon. Pours black as night with a brown little head. Very thick and aromatic with some hops present. Dark bitter chocolate goodness present with a little coffee and some hops as well. Very sweet and refreshing, like a dessert in a bottle. I liked this alot. bitbucket (2165) - Kirkland, Washington, USA - MAY 19, 2009
Pours opaqe dark brown with a tan ring of foam. Sweet and creamy medium-full body with light carbonation. Sweet and nutty chocolate with just a dash of coffee in the aroma and taste. Now this is nice. 3fourths (9357) - Boulder, Colorado, USA - APR 25, 2009
UPDATED: OCT 10, 2013 Sample from a bottle shared by a kind soul at the 4/25 HOTD dock sale. Impenetrable dense black body with a small brown ring of a head. Intensely pungent fresh shaved bakers chocolate and pillowy cocoa. Rich and luscious texture, smooth, intensely decadent, malt-driven with a surprising and impressive fullness of body. Slightly chalky at times but not a detriment. The fresh semi-sweet semi-bitter dark chocolate quality is downright fantastic. This beer is legitimate. skoisirius (1909) - Earth, Washington, USA - APR 6, 2009
Many thanks to derkruk for this one! I had no clue this existed! Dark black pour with brown hints at the edges. Big milk chocolately nose, lots of sweetness. Velvet smooth body, the milk chocolate turns to dark halfway over the palate, and notes of bitter and burnt become present, but add to the cocoa powder flavor that’s happening. 10% not detetacble. Its like the Chokolat’s 2nd cousin, same family, but a tad bit thinner. Really impressive though for Rogue, especially as of late...would love to find some more of this! glkaiser (1214) - Seattle, Washington, USA - MAR 24, 2009
First off, got this at the Rogue in Astoria, OR and the manager assured me it is not the same recipe as the regular Chocolate Stout. Dark black with medium brown head. Aroma of huge bittersweet chocolate. Taste is all about the sweet chocolate with ashy roasted malts. Bitter finish balances nicely. Really enjoyable. I love their regular Chocolate Stout, and I love this one. Great sipping dessert beer. Hides the alcohol well. I’d take this over the Souther Tier Chokolat any day.

This beer seems to be an enigma. Tough to nail down just what the story is after some net searching. Only other raters seem to be talking about it.
Thick and oily brownish black body with a very dark almost rust colored head which soon leaves the oily surface quite clean. Smell is a powerful combination of sweet chocolate, as well as coffee rinds and cocoa. Thick and creamy on the palate, taste of mostly coffee and then chocolate throughout. There is a rounding bitter coco/hop finish, the sweet notes are more in the background I think. Excellent beer!
