Moter oil black… Amazingly think and velvety, like biting into warm fudge… sweet but balanced bitterness…. Truly a dissert beer if one was ever brewed!
Keyaki 2014 Ezo beer tasting set. Dark brownish/black with a minimal tan head. Huge milk chocolate, roasted malt nose with coffee, toasted pine nuts, almond notes also present. Slightly watery mouthfeel with some creaminess still noticeable. Tastes almost like a thin dark chocolate milk. The flavour is more of the same with toasted cacao nib and smokiness also present. Great lasting finish. Very smooth. slowrunner77 (12594) - Reno, Nevada, USA - OCT 14, 2014
"Whoa...what a beer. Black/brown with a thin brown head. Takes everything good about Rogue Chocolate Stout, squares it, and gets rid of the watery mouthfeel (the weaker beer’s only shortfall). The aroma is mostly chocolate...tootsie rolls ...with some roasted malt detected underneath. The mouthfeel is big and creamy, which is quite nice. This is definitely a dessert beer...pretty sweet, although i bet there are high IBUs in there too. Just tasty. Roasted malt and a ton of chocolate. You can tell it’s got a backbone, but not that it’s 10%. Hard to get info on this beer...got it at the Rogue Alehouse in SF, brewed in Oregon, presumably for Ezo Beer in Japan, but even though ezo-beer.com is right on the bottle, this beer isn’t on there. Only 3 ratings on ratebeer and beeradvocate. Worth buying a few if you can find it...sadly i was loaded with beer so i got only one :("

Dark brown with small beige head. Aroma chocolate and coffee and caramel and a bit of toasted nuts. Full body. Bit of warming alcohol. Flavor is chocolately with some roasted malt. Fairly sweet but pretty drinkable. Nice if not spectacular. giancarloh (75) - - APR 26, 2014

The contract brewed(by Rogue) Ezo Imperial Chocolate Stout picked up on sale from Sugaya(best before 12/2013). 10% served in a snifter, it pours a thick viscous black pour with reddish accents & a thin red-brown head. The aroma is cacao, umami, Belgian chocolate & a tasty milkshake like quality. The taste is umami, roast chocolate, coco powder warming going down my throat. Wonderful full body with a silky smooth mouthfeel & a bitter dark chocolate bite in the finish. Great stuff. I had no idea this was retired & no longer brewed, I’d have bought a few more bottles!

UPDATED: APR 14, 2013 Tap at Popeye, Tokyo. Black colour with a beige head that leaves a nice lacing. Aroma of dark chocolate, vanilla, caramel, citrus. Flavour like the aroma. jonno (2886) - JAPAN - APR 21, 2012
2008 bottle. Retired, but bottles are making the rounds. Jaffas, huge chocolate nose minimal head even when poured vigorously. Lovely molasses black colour with the remains of the head shitting prettily round the edges of the glass. Very smooth soft full lots of chocolate and a little vanilla. My only complaint is that there not much else. Not too sweet though - more luxurious than anything. Reminds me of ST chocolat. No signs of oxidization yet, though the lack of carbonation doesn’t help the beer. Still a wonderful treat. decaturstevo (6343) - decatur, Tennessee, USA - MAR 20, 2012
Black pour with tan head. Chocolate syrup aroma. Chocolate, with a flat coffee, toasted malt and a decent bitter. Medium full bodied with good carbonation. drowland (8955) - Georgia, USA - FEB 24, 2012
2/24/12. 12oz bottle shared at RBWG 2012. Opaque black pour with a small brown ring of head. Bold, rich chocolate aroma that approaches tootsie roll territory. Sweet chocolate flavor as well that definitely remindsof tootsie rolls. I can’t say it’s bad, but... a bit weird. Ughsmash (7508) - Pewaukee, Wisconsin, USA - FEB 24, 2012
Bottled. Poured very close to black with a shortish cap of dark tan head. The aroma picked up a whole lot of mostly sweet, but some darker and smoky chocolates.. some vanilla too.. totally decadent. The flavor found similar stuff.. opened with tart, greener chocolate, with milk chocolate not far behind.. tart toward the finish with a little oxidation, alcohol warmth, and light soapy notes.. lots more chocolate after the swallow. Medium-plus bodied and quite sweet on the palate.. a bit smoky and tart too.. good feel and flow.. wish I could drink this again.
