Poured from bottle into—whoa that baby is pungent. Forced salivation, and not from anticipation. Deep red, no head to speak of. Very boozy, dark fruit, concentrated. Feels more like a barley wine, but then I guess I should have expected that from an imperial red.

Keg Half Pint at White Horse, Parsons Green, London in Aug 2011 - Reddish Amber in colour. Very Malty; toasty malts, toffee, brown sugar, some chocolate, hint of nuts. Fruity; citrus oranges and raisins. Spicy; mild spice flavours. Yeasty. Hoppy; piney resinous hops. Sweet fruity throughout. Very drinkable. Nice beer! (2011-08-04)

Murky red. Thin head. Aroma is sweet doughy , toast/light roast. Herbal planty, dated bottle. Taste is some caramel chocolate light roasts, toasty. Bit boozy. Dark toffee. Don’t think I’ve ever had this fresh, tastes aged, kind of medicinal b vitamy. Poorly stored most likely.At one time I thought I liked this, its OK. brew is a dark hazy red/chestnut brown with a good red glow when held to a light.
Aroma is light dried fruits that are pummeled by citrus hops.. a little caramel and chocolate as it hits room temp.. it really needs to warm to get interesting. Piney and biscuits.
Flavor is thin .. probably to big bitterness and a nice toasty malt mid palate.. citrus/floral hops and a good dose of brown sugar without the sweetness.. a little yeasty fruitiness.. that seems to find its way into most Rogue brews.. finish is medicinal hops and a lingering toffee quality. Body is fairly light for a brew of this caliber/abv.. carbonation is pretty much perfect.
if I had this beer in a blind tasting... I would guess.. a barleywine.. not an energized version of a red ale.

Bottle. Looking at the dates this was most recently reviewed, I’m seriously questioning how old this damn bottle is.... No date stamp found. Pours brownish amber with nearly no head. Some sweet malts, caramel, some earthy and herbal tea-like notes, brown sugar, and a weird candy-like finish. A bit of oxidation, but it’s not overpowering. This was a gift... The aroma is sweet like a Barleywine, malt - caramel, dates, figs. Pours a brown amber with no head and no lacing. The taste is sweet/bitter umami. The body is medium, the texture creamy, the carbonation average and the finish short. Overall OK, really is like a Barleywine taste and palate wise. "not sure what this is based on, but it tastes nothing like a stronger St Rogue Red as i was hoping for. May more malt than hops in this one...toffee up front, and in the aroma with a slightly nutty, slightly bitter finish. another ok-pretty good beer from Rogue that’s not worth the ridiculous bottle price. 9/5/2014. XS bottle. Cloudy dark amber with a thin white head. Malty and spicy aromas. Sweet sugary flavors with malt, caramel, spices and an earthy, hoppy finish.
