UPDATED: FEB 15, 2004 Really black, not much of a head. Aroma is clearly hoppy, but also brings chocolate. Flavor is a little roasted, chocolate and maybe some cocoa. A little bitter.

12 oz bottle. Nice big tan head. Black body. Light carbonated. A tiny bit watery. Aroma and flavour is Coffe and Chocolate.

Opaque black, small tanned head. Aromatic hoppy nose, a bit roasted. Medium-bodied, roasted, very pleasant coffee in the finish and aftertaste. For this ABV, excellent porter. (7/4/8/4/16 3.9)
Re-rated, bottled 5.7%
Dark, almost opaque black. Small tan head. Very chocolaty roasted nose with notes of hops. Medium to full-bodied. Starts roasted with cold coffee then has a long burst of hops. Long roasted and hoppy aftertaste. (8/4/8/4/16 4.0)

Blackish pour, some dark browns. Nose is chocolate syrup, coffee and roasted malts. Taste is burnt malts, chocolate cake, caramel coffee, light bourbon smoked woods. Rated 6/29/02

650ml bottle - thanks, Anna’s parents!
Almost black, dense tan head. Sweet roasty malts in the aroma. Fairly soft palate, with an immediate burnt edge noticeable on the back of the tongue. Taste is focused on that drying charcoally burnt edge, and is at first a little uninspiring. Some pleasant spiky hops build over time, which makes it a far more interesting brew. Certainly nothing particularly wrong with it - it’s a pretty tasty quaffer as it’s not too unbalanced.

Bottled at Haket, Gothenburg. It pours almost black, with a beige head. Mocha and fruityness in the aroma. Nice but lacks complexity. The flavor is chocolate and coffee, once again nice but lacking complexity. A bit thin and one-dimentional, with a dryish finish. It might seem uninteresting from my description, but it’s quite well crafted and I would like to enjoy it again. (060824)

Bottle @ home shared with Thompson after he crushed and demolished me in multiple poker games. Thanks Thomas my good friend. You bastard. Anyway, dark brown color, dark red glow coming through when held into the light, medium sized light brown color that diminishes quite quickly. Aroma of malts, dark malts, mocha, dark chocolate. Taste malts, caramel, dark malts, mocha, chocolate, bitter. Medium body and carbonation.

brokensail (16689) - Dublin, California, USA - JUN 12, 2012
Dark brown in color with a khaki head. Stale coffee, harsh roastiness, bitter dark chocolate, and coffee grounds. Not a fan of the aroma. The flavor is really no better. Quite bitter with tons of roasted malt and coffee ground flavors. Some bitter dark chocolate, a bit of earthiness, maybe some slight malty sweetness. Meh.

Dedollewaitor (16543) - Odense, DENMARK - MAR 26, 2007
Pitch black with a fine thick brown head. Roasted coffeee/mocha notes. Filling body not near thick though. Easy smoke & light chocolate.. light sweet malty/sugar. Dry bitter finish! Good!

djd07 (16289) - Houston, Texas, USA - NOV 21, 2011
On tap at Monsters of Beer 2011. Pours a dark brown with creamy medium sized head. The aroma is a vanilla roast and chocolate. Thin mouthfeel with a bitter malt with roast and light hop finish. Easy to drink a very good porter from Rogue.
