Bottle sample at a tasting at Dror S.’s place. Thanks Tom L. Dark brown with a big beige head. Aroma of stale hops, a bit piney, with roastiness and a bit of chocolate. Roasty flavor, a bit sweetish, with hints of chocolate and coffee and a hoppy bitterness, kinda stale. Medium-bodied. Not fresh enough. Chudwick (3367) - Taylor Mill, Kentucky, USA - AUG 7, 2013
Growler - pours brownish red with lots of beige head and faint lacing. Nose is pine, resin, caramel, and grapefruit. Flavor adds a slight metallic element. Quite bitter and a bit sweet. Long bitter finish. Medium body. A great value and full of flavor. I wish I could a keg of this. However, the neophyte in me wonders why this is a black ipa and not an imperial amber. sic1314 (4967) - Leiden, NETHERLANDS - AUG 6, 2013
Poured a dark brown with a tan head. Aroma of roast malt and soft citrus hops. Medium body, flavour of sweet malt coffee and liquorice. shigadeyo (3788) - Cincinnati, Ohio, USA - AUG 1, 2013

6/23/2010: Rogue Mogul Madness... Aroma: Pine, citrus, and earthy hops; toffee; similar to that of a Pacific Northwestern Style Red IPA... Appearance: Deep brown color with a thick beige-colored head of foam. Flavor: Bittersweet toffee maltiness (seems a bit scorched though) followed by peppery, earthy, floral, and resinous bitterness; fairly high bitterness level, but nothing seems to blend or work together; tastes more like an experimental homebrew; weird spiced characteristic; needs more hop flavor to balance the raw bitterness. Palate: Average. Overall: I knew I should have just avoided this beer. I specifically ignored it for my first pint, but then decided to get one anyway for my second pint... Stange brew; seems to be more malt than hops or bitterness; seems scorched; messy, distracted combination of flavors; not recommended...
Draught at The Comet in Northside (Cincinnati, Ohio). Rating #351 for this beer.

Chelmsford Beer Festival. Keg from Podge’s bar. Almost clear dark red beer. Good size pale tan head. Palate is light and a little dry. Good fine carbonation. Nice piney hops with a light spice. Very light citrus. Underpinned by lactose sweet caramel malt. Finishes minerally.
On tap at the beertemple.
Thick creamy off white head. Clear deep burgundy pour. Lovely bitterness. Very good brew. olsvammel (7289) - Örebro, SWEDEN - JUN 29, 2013

On-tap in the Rogue bar on Union St, San Fran: 3rd Feb 2013.
49ers had just blown the Super Bowl and I thought this would go down well too!
It did, an off-white crown sat on top of a dark brown body that had a red hue to its look.
Raosted/toasted malts in both the nose and taste: semi-sweet with a more bitter and dry finish, plenty of flavours to pick up within the brew ranging from coffee at the fore through to a mild citrus note towards the end.
Interesting and a good start to six beer mini-session I had that evening. Jur (468) - NETHERLANDS - MAY 14, 2013
Draught @ Beer Temple.
More hazelnut than black IPA. Nice cinnamon head.
Strong roasty-toasty caramel nose.
Taste is tad bit sweet (considering the above), with a bitter finish. Like burnt espresso. Still quite pleasant. pdx77 (1717) - Oregon, USA - APR 26, 2013
On draught at Rogue. Dark brown color. Aroma of roasted malts and some citrus. Nice citrus hop kick melded with the dark malt flavor.
