Going into this one having no idea what it was, this was a pleasant surprise. This black IPA has its hops assertive, but not too much. Tastes like a grapefruit was squeezed into it, but with just the right amount. Very good and delicious. Last one at my beer store, hope to find it again some time. jfb (7299) - GERMANY - MAR 13, 2013
(draught) pours a murky ruby-brown colour with a creamy beige head. aroma of heavy caramel and raisins, quite resinous, with notes of earth, canned peaches, milk chocolate, vanilla and strawberries. flavour is mostly roasted malts and caramel, some light teebark, marzipan and a medium-bitter earwax finish. slightly watery body with soft carbonation. kiwianer (3428) - Otorohanga, NEW ZEALAND - MAR 11, 2013
The head is maybe to much and robust, body dark brown. It smells creamy, flowery, a bit grapefruit. The taste is smooth, a bit fruity, hoppy-bitter, aromatic-grapefruit. Nice one! 12/12/12/12/13/12 allmyvinyl (11412) - Edinburgh, SCOTLAND - MAR 9, 2013
Have Rogue gone and invented a Red IPA? This sure wasn’t Black. Drinkable enough, but not particularly interesting. snoworsummer (6504) - baltimore, Maryland, USA - MAR 6, 2013
From a bomber. Smells delicious, like plums and caramel. Slightly sweet, slightly bitter. Light foamy head.

Bottle. Pours hazy dark amber with thick frothy beige head; decent retention and lacing. Aroma is cookie, cereal, and caramel malts, figs, dates, sweetbread, red grapes, and floral hops. Flavor is sweet malts and dark fruit esters that are quickly followed and dominated by floral and earthy hops (heavy bitterness); dry finish with a lot of lingering grapefruit and coffee bitterness. Medium body and low carbonation. thechandler (593) - Charleston, West Virginia, USA - FEB 18, 2013
Pours a dark caramel color with a light foamy head. Aroma is sweet with a little bit of hoppiness to it. Flavor is definitely more sweet and caramel-malty than I expected. Very nicely balanced. Good stuff. Majin (256) - West Des Moines, Iowa, USA - FEB 16, 2013
Pours with a thick, heavy head. Very dark amber/brown in colour. Smells strongly of coffee, cocoa, and malt. Very smooth going down, and very full bodied. Malty and slightly bitter finish. A very tasty beer, and I hope to track down more of it in the winter!

No heavy spices with a typical winter beer. Medium hops, and a little more than a bit malty which I like. Gorgeous dark/red color, no head which is off white and minimal lacing.
