This beer brings me back full circle to the first craft beer I’ve tried. 1988 in Philadelphia, at the Khyber Pass Pub. The concert was some punk band like Mule or Philly’s Serial Killers. At the bar there were all sorts of beers I never heard of, and a girl next to me said to try the Rogue Mogul Madness. After that, I couldn’t drink another cheap macro to save my life. and looking back, this isn’t so bad for a first microbrew! the body is ruby-copper, clear. Head is thick foamy, lasts well. aroma is fresh piney hops, juicy, a little floral and perfumey. faint cat urine. flavor starts sweet and lightly roasted caramel malt at the back of the palate, kind of bready, then goes to spicy, bitter, resiny hops with a leafy bitter finish. body is mild to light, kind of feels thin because of the tingly carbonation. aftertaste is fresh peeled grapefruit pith. so many different hops are in the mix that the character gets a little neutralized.
Restrained aroma in a brown black pour. Hop forward balance with full sweet malt body and sustained malty finish. Interesting hint of licorice as it warms up too. Very tasty brew. zgaier (1951) - Coral Springs, Florida, USA - SEP 7, 2015

With Z, pours a dark mahogany brown pour with a beige head. Nose is malt and caramel with softer pine and resin . Taste is caramel, toffee and sweet malt with a softer hoppy ending. Finishes on the well balanced tasting notes with a sweet hoppy finish . Quaff Score 7 / 10 ( drinks more like a strong ale ) dmoncki (42) - Barcelona, SPAIN - JUN 24, 2015

On tap at D.B.A. New Orleans. Pours a dark caramel color with a foamy head. Aroma is sweet with good hoppiness to it. Flavor is definitely more sweet and caramel-malty than I expected. Very nicely balanced. Good stuff. (they had written in next to the name on the chalk board, strong ale. As soon as tasted new it was a Black IPA)

Solid Black IPA. A little light in body, but clear happy flavor. Could use slightly more flavor for palate feel. Nice finish. Good with spicy food. slowrunner77 (12051) - Reno, Nevada, USA - SEP 30, 2014
"very interesting. rich and full bodied. has an herbal aspect...can’t tell if it’s the hops or yeast. low bitterness and flavorful. sweet, bready and thick, but the tripel aspects come through a little more than the bock. nice unique brew."
