650 ml, Mori moto version. Opaque dark chocolate color with a four finger, lasting head. Aroma is of espresso flavored with milk chocolate and caramel. Caramel, chocolate, and nut flavors on the front turn more toasted-nutty, dry cocoa, coffee, with a finishing touch of char and smoke as the delicate bittering hop kicks in. Body is maybe a tad shy of medium, smooth, a little watery, and slightly dry on the finish. AtronSeige (1535) - Johannesburg, SOUTH AFRICA - JAN 24, 2015
Aroma: Rich malt, toasty, chocolate, dark sugar, dried dark fruits, molasses. grape. Light roasty.
Appearance: Dark amber, clear body. Large, light-brown, rocky head. Good retention, lacing.
Flavour: Medium dried fruits, raisins. Light roasty, burnt. Light grape. Medium bitterness, medium sweetness. Well balanced, Dry finish, lingering raisins and slight bitterness.
Mouthfeel: Medium body, Medium-high carbonation.
Overall: Very enjoyable! Can do with a bit more body to match the style, but the taste and aromas are amazing!
660 ml bottle, poured.

Stout/porter in appearnce and smell, but more like an IPA in flavoring. Hoppy and somewhat grainy, but has a smooth coating finish. Better than the regular Morimoto but still not top of the line as far as Rogues go. Must be very cold to taste good at all. obguthr (6344) - Staunton, Virginia, USA - JAN 20, 2011
Charred oak and raisin aroma with distinct walnut accents. Clear mahogany, medium creamy head, good lacing. Dark roasted malt, somewhat grainy, light tartness, a kiss of bitterness in the end. Great balance and flavor. LIght body, quaffable. Well crafted. szkot (100) - Minnesota, USA - NOV 17, 2004
This beer pours black with brownish tints. Smells and tastes nutty, roasted soba. Would happily down another.

22 oz bottle of Morimoto Black Soba Ale: Pours like a porter ... black with a big rocky tan head. Just a hint of toffee or java on the nose. Those tones come on a little stronger in the flavor ... watery coffee, maybe a hint of smoke. nice robust flavors ... only downer is a bit of a watery texture. Cybercat (5829) - Georgia, USA - JUL 30, 2009
Pours a semi-transparent mahogany with a fairly thick, fluffy, light dirty tan head that hangs around for a bit. Aroma is strong and malty with smoky and nutty hints. Flavor is malty with hints of hops, roast nuts and caramel and even a bit of oak. Texture is lively and tingly, sometimes just a wee bit wan but still good. It leaves a mysterious aftertaste a little like smoked wood. mikedR (1561) - Gilbert, Arizona, USA - DEC 10, 2012
Nice "lighter" stout-style ale on par with but a bit better than Young's but without the chocolate. Nice coffee notes at the back end. But just a tad too watery.

Bomber. Deep red brown with a thin tan ring of head. Nutty, soy sauce, earthy hops, graham crackers and rich malts. Flavor is richly sweet with a light bitter finish. Body is medium heavy with a creamy feel. Very tasty, reminiscent of a black IPA, but without the black licorice flavor. Ratman197 (14822) - Arvada, Colorado, USA - FEB 16, 2006
Bomber [thanks robertburns] poured a clear reddish black with a lasting tan head. Aromas of roasted malt, some dark fruit, vinous, and a hint of oxidation. Palate was medium bodied, smooth yet crisp. Flavors of bitter chocolate, carmel, citrus, and a hint of coffee with a smooth, lingering finish.
