3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
UPDATED: JAN 11, 2013 On tap, Pours a dark amber color with a medium off white head with light lacing. Smells of dark malts, pine, toffee, caramel, and grapefruit. Tastes of all the same things I mentioned in the smell with slight chocolate in the aftertaste. Mouthfeel is medium with light carbonation and a semi dry finish. This wasn’t the same as I remember when I had It a few years back, it was the 2009 vintage. It had more of a chocolate presence. This years version was hoppier than I was expecting. Wish I could re-live the 2009 version but it was still a good barelywine.
Bottle thanks to Keith! 2013 vintage. Pours moderately clear burgundy with a modest brown head which soon recedes. Aroma is caramel, toffee, oak. Taste is toffee sweet, caramel sweet, modest-high bitterness, oak flavours throughout. Bill Becker (1906) - Casper, Wyoming, USA - OCT 17, 2017

Poured from 750ml bottle(room temp) a dark clear gold with a smallish head that dissipates quickly leaving just a fine layer with little lacing.
The smell has a very sweet malty nose and there's also an obvious air of alcohol mixed in there but then, this *is* a BWSA so I expected that.
The taste is huge! Lots of malt up front but a more than abundant note of hops(it's 120IBUs) comes into play and takes over and never relinquishes. If the malt had kept up with the infusion of hops, I'd have certainly rated this one higher than I did.
Overall, this isn't exactly the most well balanced Barleywine Style Ale but I do find it a quite enjoyable brew to sip on. I recommend it.

Small head and a clear golden color. Complex aroma and a very appealing taste. A bit alcohol in the taste but at 11.5 % it is expected. A smooth chocolate taaste.
From old tasting notes. Cloudy brackish brown color. Creamy beige head. Interesting spicy Worcestershire sauce aroma. Tangy, bittersweet treacle malt flavor. Bittersweet malt/hop finish seems subdued. Long bitter aftertaste. SamVimes21 (573) - - JUN 17, 2017

Shared 2012, 750 ml. ceramic, swing-top bottle poured to a fest sampler showing a cloudy, brownish amber color, with modest, off white foam that rapidly reduced to a persistent ring, and light spots of lacing. The nose was some fruitiness as citrus & pit fruit, brown sugar, caramel, malt sweetness, and some ready alcohol. The taste was similar, medium+ bodied, with low carbonation, booze, and held onto a pronounced, earthy & rind-like bitterness. Decent BW. dnstone (3575) - Kansas City, Missouri, USA - MAY 31, 2017

Notes: on tap at he brewery, Portland visit May 17
Avermelhada de média turbidez, espuma de média formação e persistência. Bastante malte e uva no aroma, leve lupulado. Paladar de médio dulçor e leve/médio amargor bem balanceado. Corpo licoroso e média carbonatação. Final tende a amargor açucarado, lúpulo sempre presente, uva em segundo plano. Muito boa. Melhor barley que já bebi.
