Rogues annual holiday offering, Santas Private Reserve, is a variation of the classic Saint Rogue Red, but with double the hops--including Chinook, and Centennial, and a mystery hop called Rudolph by head brewer John "more hops" Maier! This holiday elixir is brewed with two-row Harrington, Klages and Munich malts, along with Hugh Baird 30-37, Carastan 13-17, and Crystal 70-80 malts, plus free range coastal water and proprietary top-fermenting Pacman yeast.

I am not a real big ale fan but this was pretty much horrible. Too hoppy for my taste and the extremely bitter "sprucey finish" was unpalatable. Sorry Santa, Ill still you milk and cookies.

Slightly cloudy dark amber color with beige head. Aroma is malt forward but you also get some earthy, resiny hops with dried orange notes. Taste starts slightly sweet and malty, even a bit nutty. Finish is more bitter and earthy with a bit of pine resin. Medium to light body, medium carbonation. Really well balanced overall, starting malty and sweet but the hops are present on the finish with a drying bitterness.

UPDATED: FEB 7, 2017 Very light malt smell...Some chocolate? Taste is unique at first but gets less complex and more bitter with sips, roasted malt taste...Post terrible Superbowl...Hate the Patriots!!! X2 .2 lower

Bottle in Tilleys in Newcastle. Amber with a cream head. Quite a fruity aroma. The taste has dank pine with spice and toast.

Unique taste, I will grant you that. Drained a 12 oz. bottle into a bar mug revealing an appealing red-brown amber with slender whitish head. It has a nose of corn and earth as best as I can describe it. I taste some malt, some unusual hoppiness and a bitter, medicinal finish. Glad to try, time to move on.

Bottle sample at a tasting at Rotems place. Thanks Rotem. Clear gold with a yellowish head. A little spicy fruit and apple puree aroma, bitter, a little toasty, fruity taste. Medium body, bitter finish, a little spicy.

Pours a dark amber color with a clean hops aroma. Taste is a bit floral, with a tinge of caramel in the taste and flavor. Easy drinking and smooth. Not overly complex but a nice beer for the style.

Poured from 22 oz. bottle. Clear, dark amber-red with a 2-finger an off-white head and very good lacing. Aroma of pine, tropical fruit, toffee, caramel and grapefruit. Taste of caramel, pine, tropical fruit, grapefruit, butterscotch, mild floral hops and maybe some nuts. Medium body and medium carbonation. A rather high power amber ale with dramatically more malt and more hops than a typical amber. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

This is a very interesting beer that is unquestionable one of a kind. Pours a dark mahogany color with a small cream head. Aroma is malty with a earthy hop note. A nice smooth bitterness that is hard to describe other then very good.

12oz bottle from Beer52.com. An attractive copper colour with a loose cream head; aroma of spicy toasted malts; strong piney hops taste with some grapefruit; and a dry finish with more fresh resinous hops. A struggle to finish because of the amount of hops.
