COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Rogue’s annual holiday offering, Santa’s Private Reserve, is a variation of the classic Saint Rogue Red, but with double the hops--including Chinook, and Centennial, and a mystery hop called Rudolph by head brewer John "more hops" Maier! This holiday elixir is brewed with two-row Harrington, Klages and Munich malts, along with Hugh Baird 30-37, Carastan 13-17, and Crystal 70-80 malts, plus free range coastal water and proprietary top-fermenting Pacman yeast.

   AROMA 6/10   APPEARANCE 3/5   TASTE 6/10   PALATE 3/5   OVERALL 11/20
KajII (801) - Macon, North Carolina, USA - JAN 29, 2011
UPDATED: JAN 30, 2011 Bottle. Poured a medium copper-red with an average sized off white frothy head that was mostly lasting and had excellent lacing. The aroma was of roasted malts,a doughy yeast and an herbal hop with a note of caramel and some spiciness. It tasted mildly sweet with a caramel overtone at the start and matured into a sweet-bitter-malty flavor that had a nice hoppiness at the finish. Mouthfeel was light to medium in body and dry in texture with a soft carbonation. Overall an OK brew but it is just lacking something.

Flaska från SB. Kastanjebrun/tjusigt kopparröd med krämigt smutsvitt skum. Stor maffig doft med massor av maltsötma, korn, torkad frukt och mörkt socker. Mellanstor, len kropp. I smaken karamell och rostade toner, kolaremmar, lite brända toner. Ganska stor beska vilket är välkommet, men kanske hänger i lite väl. Sötma i princip borta i smaken.

Bottle. Hazy amber, small off white head. Aroma is caramel sweet with pine and orange/citrus fruit flesh. Taste is sweet, piney bitter, has caramel and fudge drops. Medium body, medium, quite prickly carbonation, dry mouth feel. Dry, slightly bitter astringent after taste.

Decent, perhaps a tad to bitter but way better than other, more bland, amber ales.
