(Bottle 65 cl) Pitch black with a small, creamy cappuchino style head. Roasted, vaguely coffeeish nose. Very malty, roasted flavours with distinct notes of coffee and perhaps a wee touch of chocolate. 031205

Ins Glas ergießt sich ein schwarzes Bier mit schöner bräunlichen Schaumkrone. Geruch röstmalzig, Schokolade. Geschmack sehr röstmalzig, angenehm cremig, schokoladig, erdig.

Bottle with Nick. Dark brown pour, tan head. Roasty malt nose, rich mocha. Light sweet flavor, great roasted malts, chocolate, dry coffee, light burnt wood. Medium bodied, chewy, with average carbonation. Roasty finish, mild brown sugar, tobacco and scorched malts. Earthy bitterness in the throat Extremely solid. Can’t really fault this.

Almost black with a big and lasting brown head. Aroma is sweet, roasted malt and chocolate. Flavor is quite sweet and rather bitter. Dry and roasted rather bitter finish. 221011

Cask (gravity dispense), GBBF, August 2005. One of the more successful of the cask US imports. A rich, roasty stout with lots of cocoa throughout. I found a lot more chocolate than coffee. Very nice.

fiulijn (21274) - Vancouver, British Columbia, CANADA - JUL 14, 2003
Black color, brown thin head. Light malt, roasted, cardboard. Weak in the front, getting more interesting later with a strong roasted malt, nutty, but nothing else. Too flat.

Keg at Rogue, PDX, 12/11/14. Last beer in OR on this trip! Dark mahogany brown with a decent light tan covering that retains well. Nose is roast malt, toffee, light cocoa, grain, vanilla. Taste comprises chocolate, light roast, light metallic notes. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, light roast in a semi drying close with hoppy backnotes. Ok stout but really struggling to see why this beer carries a score of 3.86 !!!

Cask at GBBF 2005 Black. Fresh, roast malt nose with coffee dominant and some chocolate, some toffee. Not too full in mouth but the finish is outstanding. Long, coffee, burntness and some charcoal.

22 oz. bottle, pours deep black with a tan head. Aroma is espresso malts and chocolate. Flavour is smooth chocolate and rich espresso, with pretty much no bitterness. Great stout.
