tectactoe (3126) - Michigan, USA - MAR 14, 2014
UPDATED: MAR 18, 2014 Bottle: Jet black, no color, topped with a huge, dark-tan head made of fine bubbles that lasts for seemingly days; chunky lacing left behind. Aroma full of sweetness & roasted grains... small dose of ashy, leafy hops bite the nostrils. Light cocoa powder, smooth cut oats, & a current of creamy sweetness that ties everything together. Deep, robust flavor of heavily roasted malts, nuts, wood, bittersweet cocoa nibs & cocoa powder, & a hint of bitter espresso bean on the very back end. Strong hop presence; earthy, leafy, mildly floral, acting as a good malt offset. Nice creaminess from the oats, which are flavorful in the aftertaste. Lasting, lightly hop-bitter, earthy-cocoa finish. Might be the best beer I’ve had from Rogue.

Pours black with thick, dense, dark beige head. Aroma is caramel, light cocoa and hops. Taste is light chocolate, moving to strong roast and a heavy hop backbone. Finish is heavy hoppiness. A very hoppy stout.

0.355 l bottle from 'Rudat'. Pitch black with a thin, frothy, slowly diminishing, beige head. Sweetish-malty, slightly roasty and a little fruity aroma of dark chocolate, coffee, some hazelnut and a touch of dark fruits. Moderately sweet, malty, quite roasty taste of dark chocolate, hard roasted coffee and licorice, followed by a medium long, rather roasty-bitter, earthy-dry finish. Medium body, a bit effervescent mouthfeel, soft carbonation. Nice!

Bottle @ home. Cellared a year and i find it quite vinous (already). Aroma is dry roasted with dark chocolate, dark fruits, licorice, coffee, vannilla, vinous raisins. Medium bodied roasted taste with a bitter roasted finish.

Thuis uit een flesje, zwart van kleur, bruin schuim dat helaas wat snel verdwijnt. Lekkere volle geur en een goed smaak, niet teveel chocolade. Heerlijk.
