Rogue Smoke is brewed with Great Western Harrington, Klages, Munich, Hugh Baird Crystal, Carastan (30-37 and 13-17), Chuck’s Alderwood Smoked Munich and Bamberg Beechwood Smoked malts; plus Perle and Saaz hops.

Pours a deep slightly cloudy amber color with a very thin head. It has a nice smoky aroma with a touch of hops. At first sip you can taste the smoke which finishes with a hoppy taste.

From May 2007 This pours a clear amber with a very small head of foam that shrinks to just some scattering in the middle and has very little lacing. The smell is a light malty nose with some hoppiness. The taste on first sip has a good caramel malt flavour that is followed up quickly by some citrusy hop bitterness. Not much smoke that I can note except maybe in the finish. Further sips in and the smoke becomes more noticeable but, imho, it doesn't seem to "mesh" too well with the malt and hops. The mouthfeel is good except near the finish where it borders on being watery and the carbonation is fairly substantial. Bottom line: I think it's pretty good but it's not something I'd drink on a regular rotation. Try it and see what you think.

From old tasting notes. Hazy reddish brown color. Creamy beige head. Smoky chocolate malt nose. Interesting roasted malt flavor with an obvious smokiness that brings to mind hints of Canadian bacon and camp fires. Hoppy finish and complex maltiness.

Draft Third of a Pint at GBBF 2011 (Day 5), Earl’s Court, London Aug 2011 - Cloudy Orange-amber in colour. Subtle smoke aroma and flavour. Malty; roasty smokey malts, hints of roast cured ham, caramel. Hoppy; spicy and herbal hops. Medium sweet malty spicy flavour. Easy drinking. (2011-08-06)

My first go at a smoke beer. Poured at a local tavern. Appearance is dark, of course, with very little head. I smell the smoke, of course, and the first taste is the same. That comes with some coffee and a bit of chocolate. Also something earthy. Tobacco perhaps. Variety is good but I’ll take an imperial stout or porter over this.

BB log, 12 oz Bottle, pours amber with one finger head. Smell and taste are heavy smoke, fire, spicy hops, grain, and malt. Im not a fan of smoked beers and this is way too much even for that style. Medium bodied. No thanks on this Rogue.

Rated from old notes. Generally a fan of smoked beers but this one did not do it for me. A flat, lifeless experience. Looks like heavy apple cider, smells like salami, tastes like a mistake.

Bottle @ home. Thanks, Arturo. Old as hell nip bottle. Chunky dark amber pour with some brown and a bunch of floaters. No head. Smoke, ham, and caramel nose. A bunch of apple as well. Slight raisin sweetness on the tongue. A bunch of smoke, some savory qualities, nuts, and salt. No thanks.

"i ind of liked the smoke flavor, but don’t think i particularly liked the beer behind it. just too harsh, and a little too bitter, with a nut flavor that didn’t go well with the smoke. i’ll pass."

Tastes like an IPA soaked smoked salmon fillet. Yes, it actually tastes like that, and I was okay with that.
