Big, earthy malt flavor balanced by lingering hoppiness, with hints of citrus. 7 Ingredients: Vienna, French Special Aroma and Maris Otter pale ale malts; Yakima Summit and German Saphir hops; the top-fermenting Pacman yeast; and as always free range coastal waters.

Pours a deep gold, very clear. Quite a malty aroma. Very carbonated, quickly dissipating head. wow, a lot to this brew. Definitely has a heavily hoppy presence. Alcohol burn, and a bitter hoppy aftertaste, much like a traditonal IPA. Let me repeat, a lot of carbonation. Not the greatest brew but very good nonethless. There is a lot to it. However, the hops are a bit overwhelming, (not that that’s bad, I love hoppy beers) which unfortunately detracted from the complexity of the brew. It was quite difficult to hone in on the other flavors since hops have an ovrpowering presence, not the best balance I could have hoped for.

Bottle: Bought 1 year after distribution. Created a short lived formation of foam head while the liquid was an amber mahogany color. The aroma was stale but did show some sings of malts still. The drink has gone flat yet boasts a bold flavor of sweet caramel like malts while a strong presence of alcohol finishes this off rather nicely. Traces of hoppiness but would have tasted better fresh.

22 oz. 2006 bottle split 3 ways. Thanks Brandon. Murky orange, very little head, lots of honey. After 7 years this was big and hugely boozy. Tasted like a barleywine after so long but tasty and really interesting. Big beer.

This was great though not quite imperial IPA. The malts were really nice vanilla toffee and honey with a balanced hops that provided the balancing spiced pine bitterness.

As 30th Anniversary Beer for Ezo Beer. 2010. Lovely full raisin nose with some big citrus poking through. Medium bodied. Lovely tawny colour. Soft taste with raisn, rum, vanilla and a blast of faded hops to finish. More a BW nowadays.

Courtesy of After4ever, thank you my friend! It’s now November 2011, so this is far from new (2006). The color is hazy bronze and the head is creamy. The aroma has notes of hops, cheese and malt. The flavor is sweet with notes of fruit, spruce, citrus, caramel, light cheese, alcohol and the finish is slightly biter with warming, spicy alcohol.

Bottle shared by a friend. Clear amber pour with a thin off-white head. Malty aroma with notes of berry, toffee and grainy malt. Malty and toffeeish flavor with some astringent hops and a grassy finish. Definitely more of a barleywine now. Would have like to have tried it fresh.

[ Vintage 2006 ]. Clear medium amber orange colour with a average, frothy, good lacing, mostly lasting, off-white head. Aroma is moderate malty, caramel, pale malt, oxidide, moderate to heavy hoppy, riped fruit, alcohol, citrus notes. Flavour is moderate to heavy sweet and bitter with a long duration, alcohol warm. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft, finish feel is light to moderate alcoholic. [20111115]

Gigantic ceramic bottle shared by dbsdelight- thanks, Dan! He said this one cost a fortune when it came out in December 2006 and sat on shelves for years. Of course, he got his and cellared it back in the day. Pours a cloudy grapefruit amber color with no head. Aroma shows some oxidation, sweet and caramel malts, paper, brown sugar, and ripened fruits. Flavor of citrus, sweet malts, toffee, sugar, and minerals. Light-medium bodied, with moderate carbonation and a dry, citrusy, malty mouthfeel. Surprised any citrus is still showing up in this.

Cloudy amber beer, no real head. Full flavoured rich beer. Immediate bitter sweet attack from the hops. Light sweet fruit followed by a marmaladish smooth mid. Finishes very slightly aniseed spicy with more orange and and tangerine hop fruitiness and bitterness. Has a real deft touch this beer - mouth watering and keeps you coming back for the next swig!

I can’t count how many occasions I brought this bottle to. Each time, it got put on the back-burner in lieu of other beers either more rare or less cellarable. And each time it went back into my cooler and back into my fridge. It’s been 3 years now. Screw it. *pop* Pours a murky golden/orange under a large, sandy head which leaves some sticky lace. I’m surprised to be greeted by a goodly amount of citrus in the nose, a few hearty hops which somehow stood the test of time? Grapefruit, orange, low lemon-dishwater. Sourdough bread tries to crawl out from under the fruit basket... a subtle mix of malt and yeast. There’s a sharp, spicy bite to the flavor which, again, I find surprising. Peppers with citrics lead into more subtle notes of malts which have taken on a musty quality. Yeast becomes heavier and more prominent as she warms. All in all this is a very intriguing mix to say the least. I’m no mixologist, but this almost seems like adding 1/3 of a fresh DIPA to 2/3 of a nice Old Ale. And it really turned out great. ~~~~~~~ From a long time ago. Originally purchased at Kenwood Liquors, Oak Lawn, IL, March 2007.
