UPDATED: AUG 7, 2012 From bottle at Natifest 12. Medium amber hue, aroma of maple syrup and powdered doughnuts, taste of bacon and club soda that’s going flat. I have nothing against brave experiments, Rogue, but sometimes they fail.

pours dark amber color with minimal head. aroma is strong maple syrup and some smokiness. smoked malts are relatively prominent but the sweet syrup balances it out. very tasty brew. it’s actually a bit lighter on the tongue than expected but still great.

Sample from a bottle at Natifest, thanks to Tmoney99. Midly hazy amber color. Good off-white head. A friend came over a few weeks ago and made grilled cheese and bacon sandwiches using donuts as bread, on my George Foreman grill. This smells exactly like they did. Awesome, unique smoked flavor... Savory, but a lot of sweet at the same time. I can understand why a lot of people aren’t fans of this, but I’m super-interested in it. Good, lighter crisp aroma, dry texture. Good, but not too much... A ~5oz sample is perfect, but an entire bomber to myself would probably have resulted in a much lower score

Bomber to taster at Natifest (thanks tmoney99). Looks decent; brownish-orange with white lacing. Smells solid; maple and doughnuts. Smells like it tastes with a little smoke; better than I expected. Mouthfeel is average. Not as bad as people say.

Smells and tastes like breakfast. Its really good for half a pint, but then I feel like Im eating pancakes and now Im full.

Ive been wanting to try this beer for a while now, and I must say, Im quite disappointed. It had a nice finish, and a nice head (after being stored in the freezer for about 30 minutes), but it tasted a bit flat. I got more of the maple taste than the bacon. Overall, I wouldn’t pay 12 dollars for it again.

Pink depth charge from Sam’s, Durham. I wanted badly to have a nice experience with this beer, knowing sometimes that impressions get pinned at the extremes. Alas, dirty water pour with a minimal head, sharp burnt meat nose along with some Aunt Jemima. Taste initially promises to be homebrew-ish rauch with toppings but it’s not nearly as good as that. I’m ashamed that I inflicted this on friends but they felt toughened up by the experience.

Bottle. Pours a slightly hazy copper color with a longlasting off-white head. Has a sweetish malty smoky maple aroma. Sweetish applewood smoky maple flavor with hints of caramel. Has a sweetish malty spicy smoky maple finish.

pours maple syrup brown, smallish head, some slow-moving CO2 streams. Very intense and aromatic applewood & hickory smoke on the nose. A burst of hickorysmokeup front, light and watery malts in the mids, light sweetness (3/10), minor saltiness, light maple caramel, finishes with a long smokiness and a light bitterness. Some medium sourness as the beer warms. Medium complexity, medium depth, good transitions, decent carry, good drinkability. Definitely a unique beer and one of the best looking bottles I’ve ever seen.

RSRIZZO (2034) - Colorado Springs, Colorado, USA - JUL 28, 2012
750ml bottle shared with some friends. Color is a deep amber with good carbonation and a nice off white head. Aroma is bold with maple and smoke. It has a medium body with a rich mouth feel. Flavor is very interesting, with maple and smoke that really gives a bacon like taste. In the after taste the sweetness and smoke hang a little heavy. Overall it nails the flavor they are going for but it gets to be a bit much and trying to drink the whole thing alone would be tough.
