On tap at brewpub (just as Brown Ale). Pours a dark brown colour with decent-sized sticky tan head. Aroma is quite nutty with toffee and a little fruitiness. Taste is also nutty with nice toffee sweetness combining with a mild roastiness for a pleasant flavour. Some lingering roasty, bitterness in finish. Gentle carbonation. My favourite of the regular beers at Rogue’s Roost. mabel (9874) - Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - MAR 23, 2009
[1844-20081102] Tap. Mild grainy yeast roast aroma. Hazy, dark dark brown body with a small long-lasting creamy head and some lacing. Fruity plum flavour has a mild roast. Medium body. Nice and drinkable. GreenWall (54) - Halifax, Nova Scotia, CANADA - JUL 18, 2008

Pours black with ruby accents. Mine had absolutely no head, although others at the bar had a healthy two-finger beige head. I had a hard time getting any aroma off of this, picked up a little bit of nutty and roasty malt as it warmed. Flavour was very nice, toasty and nutty malt flavours underscored by a balanced roast acidity. Fairly light body, went down crisp and smooth. glennmastrange (2932) - hobe sound, Florida, USA - MAR 12, 2008
Draught. Heavy malt aromas of toasted, nutty and dark bread, light notes of herbs and earth for the hops and yeast, with toffee in the background. Head starts large and creamy then thins to a ring around the glass, and has excellent lacing. Color is clear dark brown. Flavor is lightly sweet and moderately acidic to starts, then finishes lightly bitter and a touch sour. Palate is light to medium, dry/watery and has a lively carbonation. It finishes a little alcholoic. A nice smooth and full Brown Ale. Gethinbeer (2452) - Nova Scotia, CANADA - NOV 14, 2007
On tap in the Rogues Roost Brewpub. Very dark brown in colour. Decent frothy off white head. Struggle to get a distinct aroma. Roasted hops flavour, quite sweet. I thought this beer was heading towards more of a porter. A little thin but I still enjoyed this beer. Decent brew.

Very dark ruby brown. Malty nutty aroma and a lovely chocolate roasted malt flavour. Hint of a sweet finish. JoeMcPhee (9598) - Toronto, ON, Ontario, CANADA - JAN 10, 2006
Tap at the brewpub. Very dark brown, ruby-tinted beer topped with a creamy tan head. Malty, toffeeish aroma, toast/toasted malts, a touch of sourish lactic character in back. Flavour is alright, sweet toasted malts up front with a sour/dry finish. A bit of earthy hops contribute to the dry finish. A pretty standard but still well-executed example. Slight astringency. jercraigs (10923) - Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - OCT 24, 2005
Draft. Very dark brown body with a creamy beige head that coats the glass. Roasty nutty aroma carries over to a flavour that is fairly bitter dark nutty roast, burnt chocolate underneath. Medium palate. Tasty but not one of my favorites at Rogues. beerbuzzmontreal (3486) - Montreal, Quebec, CANADA - AUG 12, 2005
Clear brown color with a thin offwhite head. Aroma of chocolate and nuts. Interesting flavor of chocolate and nuts with a sweet finish. Light body, soft carbonation. albert007 (415) - Penobsquis, New Brunswick, CANADA - AUG 8, 2005
On Tap at the pub. Dark brown beer with a , creamy beige head & lace. Roasted malty aroma with nuttiness and hints of grassy, floral hops. Smoky taste with coffeeish flavor with those grassy hop tones makes for a nice beer in my books.
