A bit more orange than yellow, small white head. Metal aroma. Good dry, hoppy finish, but the taste is a bit too sugary for me.

UPDATED: JAN 3, 2008 500ml bottle.
Extremely dark red. Thin fizzy beige head. At first a lagery aroma, which becomes metallic, and then plastic novelty erasers (which I associate with lager malt). Pretty bitter taste, a bit too fizzy, and with an uninteresting sweet roasted malt taste accompanied with something perfumy. Alcohol detectable too. Not enough guts to the malt flavour, not worthy of the colour or strength.

(Bottle BB 28/11/07) Caramel and roasted aroma. Dark brown red colour, brownish, average size head with fair/good lacing. Roasted malty (even burned), sweet, coffee, dark bread and caramel flavour. Medium-bodied, softly carbonated and slightly sticky palate. A bit too sweet especially after warming up. 10/06/07

On drauht at Prazsky Most, Praha.
Almost black in colour with a tint of red. Brown head. Cocoa and caramel dominate the aroma. Caramel is most prominent in flavour, also a bit tidbits is found. It’s little sticky and light roasty. Tasty beer, without finnesse. The finish is very short.

Bottled. Dark reddish brown colour with mediumsized beige creamy head. Lacing. Aroma is strong of roasted and caramel malts along with raisins, some fudge and licorace.Flavour is roasted malts, sweet dark dry fruits, but gets very papery in the finish. Roastiness and some dark dryu fruity hints stays for quite a bit in the aftertaste.

sayravai (4711) - Helsinki, FINLAND - MAY 4, 2007
(Bottled) Very dark reddish brown with a smallish, beige, quite firm and lacy head. A bit sour and unclean, sugary aroma of slightly roasty, caramely malt, and hints of salty licorice. Earthy flavor of roasted malt, some licorice, and dark, sweet-sourish rye bread. At least medium-bodied, slicky-smooth, but quite carbonated palate. A somewhat mixed bag, but overall I’d give a thumbs up. Color malts have been balanced with other (sweet) malts, and there’s some licoricey feel, too. Not very clean - just like its pale sister. Maybe too sweet, but still easy to drink. Hmm...

Bottled (BB 11/2007)

Very dark ruby color, beautiful tan head. Aroma has paper, raisins, hints of roasty malts and grassy hops. Quite full-bodied. Alcoholic, sweetish with caramel and raisins. Some woody Bohemian hops in the background. Someway harsh and not very balanced.

omhper (25834) - Tyresö, SWEDEN - APR 3, 2007
Draught at Soldaten Svejk, Stockholm. Almost black, firm beige head. Arome of spun sugar. Sweet and lightly roasty with some dextrose. Full bodied as far as Czech beers go and with rounded mouthfeel. Short finish with more sugar. I have not been convinced withe the beers from one of my former favourite breweries since they changed their name from Korbel.

2.2
motelpogo (8031) - Plzen, CZECH REPUBLIC - FEB 24, 2007
bottled. purple with a brief head. light plum and toasty aroma. watery texture, some alcohol burn, golden syrup sweetness, a bit messy

3.2
chriso (7536) - London, Greater London, ENGLAND - DEC 28, 2006
500ml bottle at Kookfest, September 2006. Thanks to Mungo for bringing this one along. Attractive chestnut brown colour. Rather bready in both aroma and flavour. Quite sweet too although there’s a touch of bitter hoppiness that relieves that a bit. I found myself rather liking this beer but I’m not entirely sure why. Never mind.
