Thick brown-beige head over nearly black beer; shards of lace. Vinous, woody aroma, intense; old brandy casks. Vanilla, Bourbon, dark fruit on brandy, Boerejongens. Sharpish spirit flavour, upon dark malts power; vanilla, cream chocolate, bit of liquorice. Wild herbs retronasal, felt and a hint of ripe banana. Rich, voluptuous MF, despite quite present carbonation. Alcoholwarming. Excellent, rewarding, even when I’ve had more brilliant in this category.

Amazing beer. A pity that my second beer in russia has to ba a Dutch one, but never mind. The looks of the beer are very promising. Pitch black on the eye, with a dark ruby red glow in the light. The beer is way to dark to see if it is clear or not. Nice.
The smell of the beer is also nice. I smell some sour oak aromas at first, with some hints of port and whisky. Besides this there are nice toasted malts, chocolate, coffee and brown sugar. Lovely. It is bitter, sweet and with a savoury smokey touch, and of course the sour oak touch. It remins me a bit of a barley wine, because of the barrel taste.
The taste is even better. The oakwood is milder, and lovely strong flavours of coffee and dark chocolate fill the mouth. The strong bitters and slight sweets form a lovely balance with the nice oaky flavours. There is a nice hoppy bitterness and a lovely touch of liquorice. A very good beer. Worth traveling to Russia (even though I can probably buy it at a special beer store around the corner).
The palate is good. The beer is full bodied and smooth, with a nice creamy texture and low carbonation. The finish is amazing. Very long and filled with a lovely bitter chocolate flavour. All in all, an amazing beer. Nice.

Aroma comes with Dutch liquorice, and dark malt notes. This dark liquid starts with a fine foam with tiny bubbles but it isn’t strong enough to keep anything floating on it’s surface. Sweet taste with a nice malt bittter which. The viscosity is spot on. Although it’s a bit thick due to the non fermented sugars, it’s still runs from the bottle like water rather than honey.
The bourbon barrel is not very distinct but delicate.
Thank you Rooie Dop!

(Bottle) Black colour with frothy, beige head. Malty, roasted nose with notes of dark chocolate, sweet espresso, soy sauce, roasted oats, oak wood, vanilla and bourbon. Malty, roasted taste with sweet strong coffee, dark chocolate, liquorice, soy sauce, oak wood, vanilla, burnt sugar, dried fruit, bourbon and a warming finish with a generous roasted bitterness. Almost full body, fairly sweet. Soft and velvety mouthfeel. Not really subtle, but well balanced and very tasty. Excellent!

Pours a very dark brown, blackish beer with almost no head. On the nose you immediately get the bourbon. Taste has bourbon, vanilla and sugar in it. Coats the mouth.

RasmusOtt (2902) - Aarhus, DENMARK - JAN 16, 2015
Pours black with a brown lacing. Aroma has some strangeness like the original. Some grant malts, hard roasted malts, cocoa beans, some dry wood and a some liquorice. The taste is very roasted and has some weak hops as well. Dry cocoa beans, dry wood, liquorice and some fresh grainy malts. Better than the non-barrel aged beer - it does not have the tartness. But still it does not blend very well for me. Still okay.
