Aroma: 5/10. Not much aroma there, some roasted malt and some hops.
Appearance: 5/5. Black pour, thin light mocha head that dissipates reasonably fast.
Taste: 8/10. Surprisingly sour-citrus for an oatmeal stout, but still well balanced. Almost lemony at first. Sweet, then a long, strong coffee finish.
Palate: 3/5. Smooth as an oatmeal stout should be on the tongue, very lightly carbonated, gentle astringency for a stout. Long, lingering hoppy-coffee finish, a little stronger than I like.
Overall: 17/20. An interesting beer, and would probably appeal more to those interested in more sour stouts. It’s not the best balanced product I’ve had out of De Molen, sadly. A little too much of everything; a little too sour, a little too bitter, a little too much coffee, a little too much hops. Still a great beer, but this could have been a few points higher with better balancing. vanelst (154) - AUSTRIA - JUN 14, 2014
bottle. Delicious smell of dark fruits and roast. Aroma of roasted malt, chocolate, coffee, dark fruits. Flavour of roasted malts, coffee, hops, warming alcohol. Dry bitter ending with vanilla/hops aftertaste.. Drinks very easy for a beer with such a high alcohol percentage. Excellent beer! allmyvinyl (10613) - Edinburgh, SCOTLAND - JUN 9, 2014
330ml bottle shared with jeevan (memory banks rate). Pours black with a thin tan head. Aromas of roasted malt, dark chocolate, almost tar. Kinda get the oats, but I was consciously looking for them. Taste is rich, bitter, bit boozy. Nice. mcberko (17836) - Vancouver, British Columbia, CANADA - JUN 1, 2014
12 oz. bottle, pours black with a small beige head. Aroma is very metallic, with dry oats and unsweetened cocoa. Flavour is bold and robust, bringing out oats, cocoa, and light roasted malt. Very full-bodied and well-balanced - much more elegant on the palate than the nose. Very good stuff bluejacket74 (1992) - Reynoldsburg, Ohio, USA - MAY 25, 2014
11.2 ounce bottle, bottled on 7 NOV 2013, label says best enjoyed within 2 years. Served in a DFH snifter, the beer pours dark brown/black with about a 1/4 inch tan head. Head retention and lacing are both decent enough. The brew smells like roasted malt, dark chocolate, licorice, and some oats. The taste is pretty much the same as the aroma, but there’s also some vanilla, molasses and a bit of dark fruit noticeable. Mouthfeel/body is medium, it’s a bit slick and creamy with moderate carbonation. The 9.6% ABV of this brew is hidden well, it’s enjoyable and easy to drink. I liked this brew, it’s certainly worth a try if you’ve never had it before. $5.79 a bottle.

@ Sergio’s / Louisville KY --- Opaque black color, bubbly rim head, light dots of lace. Taste is toasted malt along with light bitter chocolate that smoothly progresses to a balanced finish. Really quite simple, but very satisfying. Abijen (2571) - ’s-Hertogenbosch, NETHERLANDS - MAY 23, 2014
Pours a dark brown beer with a good tan head. Smells dried fruits, bit metal, vanilla. Tastes coffee, chocolate, silkey and dried fruits. Nice. I love the smoothiness. Average carbo, medium body and a oily texture. BierMug (16) - NETHERLANDS - MAY 21, 2014
Bottle from DeMolen. Pours lovely dark with caramel head. Smells of dark toasted malt and tastses of chocolate and coffee. Could do with some wood maturing but is smooth as it is. angel77 (3382) - oviedo, SPAIN - MAY 11, 2014
