3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 14/20
Citrusy and slightly caramelly aroma. The taste is mostly caramel with sone citrus hops in the background. Dry and bitter finish.
Dark brown coloured body with a paper-thin tan head only coating the top and fading very quickly thereafter. Aroma of burnt sugars, light earth, pitted fruits, raisins, grapes, prunes, plums, grain, rye, cacao and a touch of other fruits like apricots and pears, but these are relatively mild, but the big notes here are in the sugars. Medium-bodied; Assertive alcohol and malt flavours dominate with some grain, rye, hops and earth around, but the prunes and plums along with some raisins and other dried fruit flavours also come through, and leave this sweet at the end. Aftertaste shows some grain, earth, pungent alcohol warmth with toffee, but mostly all about the pitted fruits and dried sweet fruit notes that this leaves from the raisins, plums, prunes and apricots that all come through flavour-wise and with those definitely above the malt and toffee notes. Overall, a decent beer with some good flavours, but much too thin for the style, the alcohol and the complexity - this is begging to have more of a mouth-coating feeling, however it leaves the palate clean and only showing the sweetness. Decent, but if there is another beer from this brewery at this price point versus a traditional beer from De Molen, I'll stick with the latter. I sampled this 33 cL bottle purchased from New Beer Distributors in New York, New York on 10-June-2017 for US$5,99 sampled at home in Washington on 25-November-2017. This beer was brewed on 31-March-2014 as well and kept for most of it's life either on the way to New York from Holland or at the store itself.

Roasted malts, a bit of fruity and spicy aromas, medium bitterness. Well balanced, full bodied. Has some likeliness to a porter or a stout. Very nice beer. adasko (2233) - Poznan, POLAND - APR 1, 2017
Bottle, almost 3 years after bottling date. Aroma is sweet, fruity, caramel, even winey a bit. Very complex, very pleasant. Taste is much more on the caramel site, with some delicate fruity notes. It’s super smooth. Not even wisp of alcohol in taste, just a warming in the stomach. Awesome, very well matured beer. MatusBeer (822) - Košice, SLOVAK REPUBLIC - JAN 25, 2017

Piana zbita, drobna, trwała, pięknie oblepiająca szkło. Barwa bursztynowo rubinowa, opalizująca, z intensywnie unoszącymi się bąbelkami. Aromat z jednej strony chmielowy, żywiczny, ze sporą ilością białych owoców, z drugiej mocno słodowy, karmelowy, rodzynkowy z przyjemnym utlenieniem słodkiego wina. W smaku gładkie, miękkie, oleiste, jest dość słodkie, akacjowe, likierowe, czuć dojrzałe jasne winogrona, rodzynki, żywicę, syrop klonowy, landrynki. Goryczka punktowa, średnio intensywna, świerkowa w profilu. Wysycenie drobniutkie, poszczypujące, średnio intensywne do niskiego.

bottle @ Belmont Party Supply / Dayton OH --- dated 31/03/14 --- Hazy amber brown color, bubbly beige head that stays around a cover, mottled lace covering. Taste is smooth malt that moves through light carbonation to smooth light hops. Maybe this was bigger when it was fresh - now it is a smooth light (not 9.1% anymore) malty brew. My bottle only labels it "Rooie Dop Utrecht Ale," but the specs match on everything else. Leighton (22769) - London, Greater London, ENGLAND - JUL 10, 2016
Bottle at home in London. Pours rich amber with a frothy, lasting beige head. Lots of hearty ripe fruit in the nose, plenty of toffee, fruit cake, figs. Medium to heavy sweet flavour with sturdy bread, creamy toffee, tons of Dane fruit cake, light piney bitterness. Full bodied, oily and chewy, with fine carbonation. Lightly warming to finish, chewy and gooey, with raisins, more fruit cake, some dried cherry, dates and figs. Really rich and tasty. Gurthnar (6280) - Bratislava, SLOVAK REPUBLIC - MAY 18, 2016
Bottle. Quite assertive hoppiness, grassy, citrusy and resiny, mixing well with massive malty backbone and rather full body of this beer. Dried fruits, raisins, light caramel. Surprisingly easy drinking, alcohol hidden completely. Very good. Plovmand (8682) - Grindsted, DENMARK - MAY 2, 2016
Bottle from Hennie Berendsen. 3 yo bottle. It pours hazy amber with a firm beige head. Loads of barley and biscuits in the nose. Nutty and overripe peach. High malty flavor. Some grain and hay. Toffee and buscuits. Very nice.
