Delicately toasted pils malts, lemongrass angles and suave herbal hops are impeccably interwoven in this über-soft, süffig lager.
Further Personal Perceptions :
-A creamy sheet of foam protects the misty blond.
-The expansive yet soft carbonation is a perfect match for the slender residual sugars.
-Pils malt flavors possess some crunch while never being overwhelming.
-This brew is near perfect as a quencher, even in the bottled version called Urbräu. This rating though is for the tap version called Lagerbier at the brewery. The bottles can be excellent, but the freshest is always the best for these types of subtle lagers.
-If more North American breweries brewed « house blonds » that were this competent, maybe sessionable beers would be taken more seriously over here.
On tap at the brewery gasthof and from bottles.
UPDATED: MAY 23, 2013 multiple fresh bottles. bright fruit nectar hop nose (apricot, orange, gelatin). hoppy, fresh, very clean with a crisp and light body, a toasty hay and dried grass / citrus focused flavor and a light mineral dustiness. frothy, round, full carbonation in the mouth with amazing lightness and leanness to the body as well. zingy and zesty lemon / lemongrass/ grass / citrus flavors lingering late. 4+ level lager.

Tap at the brewery. Fresh doughy malt nose, bready, a touch of honey, more peaches as it opens up. Fine low head, lacy, rather pale gold, it seems. Tasts very bready, malty, strong prickly hoppiness. Light fruits, peach and apple. Actually quite bitter and long-lasting. Full body, with low carbonation (I don’t think the wooden keg it real, however it feels like a gravity pull). Very fresh and creamy. Gets a touch of pineapple in there too as it warms. A fantastic beer.

Bottle, best by March 2013, consumed in Nov. 2012: Luminous golden. Thick white halo of creamy consistency. Luxuriant perfumey hop aromas of flowers, pepper, lemon, and bright grassiness. Underlying pils malt starches and uncured hay. Light note of dough. Soft carbonation, wonderfully natural in feel. Exuberantly hoppy upfront, with a "green" and juicy zip and lemony twist. Trailing herbal spice is adorned with a clean, lush and snappy pils malt blanket. Sweet and haylike, as well. Ample starchy depth and textures envelop the palate and contrast nicely with the invigorating mineral and lemon interplay. Trace doughiness somewhat mars the brightness in the center, as it lends unnecessary weight. Though a dab of nectar somewhat compensates at it shyly emerges. Assertively peppery and lemon zesty hoppiness comprises the remarkably lean and dry finish, as a mint leaf sparkle highlights the gracefully supportive sweet hay and crackery pils malt. A hopcentric golden lager that calls to mind Spezial Ungespundet in all its lemony and herbal hop expressiveness. Perhaps a tad doughy, but I would happily quaff this all day long.

Bottle. Hazy golden colour, small white head. Low carbonation. Malty aroma. Notes of grass, hops. Slightly soapy and bitter in the finish. Altogether a solid brew. Beershine (5224) - VANCOUVER, British Columbia, CANADA - AUG 17, 2009
As lagerbier, draft from brewpub. Light golden. Lasting beige head. Has grainy entry and smells like a Franconian farm, really nice. Pure mellow earthy grain flavors. Good brew.
