COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Wheat is an important and typical flavor carrier in this type of beer. As with all other beers we also work at Rothaus Hefeweizen with a slightly higher original gravity of 12.5%.

In addition to the fine hop bitterness (13 bitter units), Rothaus Hefeweizen is typical of the variety, with another important flavor component, the yeast. In Hefeweizen the yeast is not mixed, but a top-fermenting yeast is used. Unlike our other beers, it comes with unfiltered wheat beer bottling.

Ingredients: water, wheat malt, barley malt, hops, hop extract, yeast.

330ml bottle. Tall, almost fully opaque beer the colour of sliced ginger with a huge billow of foam too big for the weizen. Ripe, estery aroma; banana, clove and Bazooka chews. Full and slippery with an incessant, prickling effervescence and all the pepper, banana and candy cigarette flavours I’m looking for in a weizen. Creamy vanilla and biscuit afters. Top stuff.

Io le weizen le compro e le bevo perchè garbano parecchio a mia moglie, ma le trovo molto simili tra loro, e anche questa mi sembra niente di incredibile. Forse appena meglio di altre.

14 Bang on wheat beer. Nothing big or cleve, but absolutely hits every wheat beer button. Yum yum!

330 ml bottle in Germany. Nice cloudy dark blonde body with a huge creamy white head with nice lacing.Aroma is of banana, cloves, pears, and bread dough. Aroma is fantastic. Very smooth creamy taste with a nice spice and nice yeasty balance. This Hefe caught me off gaurd for sure.

Bottle at Utopias, Ashford, thanks to Phil. Hazy pale gold, hint of green. Thick lasting off white head. Decent aroma. Good esters. Banana. Some cereal banana and more cereal in mouth it’s a little light on character and may be some sweetness and maybe too banana. Finish again is fairly light. Bit more lager than wheat beer. Drinkable enough but fairly simple. Maybe the rather over carbonation put me off. Bit I do like a hefe. Simple and nothing wrong with it.

On tap in London (forgot which pub). Poured a hazy yellow-orange liquid with a small white head. Flavour of foam banana and yeast. Semi smooth mouthfeel, medium body and medium carbonation. Actually a pretty decent hefe-weizen. The foam banana and yeast was there, could have used some more for a higher score. It isn’t as good as Weihenstephaner or Franzizkaner, but definitely a decent substitute.

(Draught at Schwarzwaldstuben, Berlin, 24 July 2010) Cloudy golden amber colour with frothy, white head. Fruity, wheaty nose with apricots, orange, banana and a touch of clove. Fruity, wheaty taste with notes of apricots, banana, citrus and hints of clove. A light, refreshing wheaty acicdity. Slightly below medium body, balanced sweetness. Well made and quite nice hefeweizen.
