COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Wheat is an important and typical flavor carrier in this type of beer. As with all other beers we also work at Rothaus Hefeweizen with a slightly higher original gravity of 12.5%.

In addition to the fine hop bitterness (13 bitter units), Rothaus Hefeweizen is typical of the variety, with another important flavor component, the yeast. In Hefeweizen the yeast is not mixed, but a top-fermenting yeast is used. Unlike our other beers, it comes with unfiltered wheat beer bottling.

Ingredients: water, wheat malt, barley malt, hops, hop extract, yeast.

Pours cloudy yellow colour. Aroma is banana, peach and mandarin. Flavour is the same. Too stuffy.

Test vom 2.2.2007, Gebinde: Glasflasche

50cl bottle. Pours a cloudy golden-orange. There is a huge head and there are steady bubbles. The nose has vanilla custard over ripe bananas. The taste has a big creamy banana note which just about gets into toffee by the end. The palate has medium body, a medium but persistent texture and a fresh finish. Overall a great hefe, well executed.

tkrjukoff (4335) - SWEDEN - AUG 10, 2011
Tap @ Craft Beer Co. Pours cloudy amber (last of the cask) with a nice longlived off white head leaving lace. Aroma is yeasty, wheaty, acidy, fruity and bready. Flavor is crispy, acidy, cloves, yeasty and wheaty. Finishes lean balanced yeasty and acidy.

Bottle from Sj German night. Cloudy orange pour with a nose of citrus fruits and some grape. Taste was a tad watery with notes of banana, bread and citrus. An okay beer, cool little bottle.

My Bottom Line :
Wheat, bananas and cloves are swiftly taken over by a surprisingly citrusy, mineral and slightly tart flavor profile awash in furious carbonation.

Further Personal Perceptions :
-A perfect immovable foam cumulus thrones atop the cloudy dark yellow.
-The finish is quite dry, which enhances the perception of very high carbonation.
-The flavor profile wasn’t as deep as the aroma, but the personality (lemongrass, citrus, etc.) made up for it easily.
-Banana esters are quite low for a Hefe Weizen.
-This can be quenching, but some breathing in the glass needs to be done to ease the effervescence into frothy territory.
-Herbal hop bitterness is present but low in the general scheme of things.
-The super high carbonation can get tiring coupled with this level of dryness.

Bottle.

Cloudy blond color; fake egg-white creamy head. Light fruity aroma, very light spices, not bad. Soft mouthfeel, too simple flavor, light wheat, the spice and fruits are kinda lost; the absence of bitterness doesn’t help. Not interesting.

Russo (2011) - Hemhofen, GERMANY - JUN 14, 2011
330ml Bottle. Nice fluffy and long white head. Cloudy yellow color, high carbonation and fruity aroma, some Banana, Orange, some floral and cinnamon. Flavor banana and orange again quite dry with spicy notes. Mouthfeel is dry orange. good one!

Test vom 10.10.2005, Gebinde: Glasflasche Noten: 8,7,6,7,8,7 - 7,00

3.2
larsga (7602) - Oslo, NORWAY - MAY 15, 2011
Big white head. Hazy opaque deep yellow body with strong carbonation. Chalky yoghurty banana aroma with floral spicy notes. Dry-sweet, and faintly acidic, yoghurty banana and oranges taste with chalky notes. Mid-to-full body. Mild, soft mouthfeel with some fizz. Dry oranges and herbs aftertaste. Nice. Unusual, and highly drinkable. (0.5l bottle, beermerchants.com)
