Perhaps it’s because I associate this pils with such a lovely part of the world do I enjoy drinking it so much! Not as distinctive or dry as many a pilsner but a good all round performer even though it appears to have lost some of its edge of late.

3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
UPDATED: SEP 30, 2015 This ubiquitous, typically sweetish Southern German pilsener in its national cult bottle is every supermarket’s or Döner shop’s cooler choice and thus a forced quencher whenever thirsty in and around the Black Forest metropoles and BW-environs, stretching out to the Swabian-infested bouroughs of Berlin, into Leipzig and Dresden nowadays. Dry yeast and sweet honey malt with a metallic finish. At times unpleasant paper-cardboard and boiled vegetable aftertaste that drowns out a lot of the fair-quality zesty Tettnang (both pellets and extract) profile. Overhyped, yet solid Pils with actually a fair bit of character - just not the sweetish character I prefer in a Pils (cf.: neighbour Waldhaus for a supreme natural hop, unfiltered version of the same SW-sweet Pils recipe). +0.4/Originally rated from bottle and tap 2013, rerates 2014. // Rerate from local draught: this is a fine and elegantly hopped PIls from tap, alas little of this delicacy seems to survive the bottling line-- Draught: 3.5 vs. bottled 2.7. // Rerates: coming to terms with the elegant balance this pils strikes between lieblich SouthWestern tastes and Nordic pils bitterness. On tap the Tettnanger really shines.

Bottle from corner shop in Berlin, Germany on 28th September 2012. Slightly yeasty hoppy aroma. Grassy hop in-mouth, sharpish citrus toward the end with hoppiness fruit and tanginess in finish. Zingy with a fair amount of body.

Regular pilsener , light, clear golden, long finish and a bit citric. All in all unremarkable.

500ml bottle. Clear golden colour with average, firm, frothy, white head. Grainy, grassy aroma. Taste is initially minimally tart grainy, a mineralic touch takes over in the middle part, strange dry, grassy, "spelty" aftertaste.

Classica beverina pils tedesca. Spiccano le note maltate e prevale un finale amarognolo. Ottima ber lunghe bevute

3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Clear citron-yellow with very thin collar. Smells like pilsener (and found out that this beer just is a pilsener) with some citron freshness. Taste is mild with flavours of wood.

Pale golden pour with a nice head. Aroma of grain. A little hop for balance. The taste is very clean. Good balance. Very easy drinking with a light sweetness.

Tannenzäpfle is pine cone in swiss. Now how does a pine cone taste? To mee it would be something like resin, but lukely this beer has none of that. Just a lot of bitternes a nice tast of something not-pine cone and a krystal clear colour. Nice, not splendid.... but I would have it again one day.

A gift from cousin imported directly from Germany, I had an opportunity to sample a "red house". I'm not a big Pilsner fan but this beer isn't that bad for his Pilsner. It's crisp and it has a nice gold color. Overall, it has a pretty good taste.
