a solid rendition of both a belgian stout and a vanilla stout, and at a sessionable abv. the belgian yeast is subtle but up front...light spice and fruit, semi dry. finishes with a soft vanilla push chinchill (4989) - South Carolina, USA - JUL 5, 2014
On tap at True North in San Diego.
Pour is essentially black and opaque with a very durable tan head. Fine sticky lacing.
Aroma: Sweet malts with hints of caramel and some fruity and spicy aspects.
Flavor: initally seems like it will be too sweet but soon becomes more balanced. Prudent use of vanilla. Good level of dark roasted grains with only faint burnt toast aspects. Lingering roasted grain flavor with a touch of vanilla.
Feel: Low carbonation is just right. Very smooth. Full body.
O: tasty and recommended.
