3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 15/20
Faint aroma of vanilla and cream. Moderate copper/crimson color. Creamy flavors of hops, vanilla, alcohol and caramel. Nothing much else to it. Overall, a decent ale.
Listed as barrel aged at the bar but also at 9.5% so I went with the percentage for this rating. Feels a little thinner than the alcohol. Good but expected more. BeerandBlues2 (13825) - Escondido, California, USA - MAR 30, 2016
Bottle at home. Pours clear tawny with a medium, frothy beige head, medium retention with light lacing. Aroma is caramel and cookie malt, figs, dates, earthy hops and alcohol. Flavor is moderate caramel and cookie malt, medium alcohol, figs and dates, light earthy hops and bitterness with a sweet finish. Full body and medium carbonation. At cellar temperature and into a chalice. Deepest, russet copper and misted but radiant in the lights. Head goes up then goes down but dwells as a thin beige pad that laces well. Very salty, umami, savoury nose hinting at fresh baked pretzel, salted cashews and peanut husks, grilled pork with just a hint of marmalade. Bready, yeasty palate. Sweet upfront; biscuity with an oat cake character. Again with the nuttiness and strangely umami pork notes. Sweet finish after a lacklustre, earthy hop peak. Medium bodied with soft carbonation. Balanced between sweet and dry with the alcohol being far too mellow. Malt driven. Big amount of orange blossom and candied orange peel is its saviour but this is residual. Session stuff with a kick. Not bad, not the best! (22fl.Oz bomber, no date stamp, International Beer Shop, W. Leederville) bergstaden (3200) - Røros, NORWAY - JUL 10, 2015
Amber with an off white head - Malt in the aroma with a good hop precence - Malt body with some caramel and a good hop profile with bitterness and some pine - The hops goes into the finsh that ends bitter and dry - This was good zgaier (1964) - Coral Springs, Florida, USA - JUN 10, 2015
Bomber. Pours a copper orange with a beige head and aroma of strong hops and pine. Taste is bitter up front, lots of good with more bitterness, pine, caramel and resin leading to dry, bitter, warming finish.

With Z, pours a reddish orange color with a Java head. Nose is sweet caramel, malt and toffee. Taste is bitter and very hoppy, surprisingly so for an ASA, along with a mouthful of alcohol. Ends on the hoppy and bitter notes with a moderately long finish. Quaff Score 7 / 10 JohnnyJ (5569) - San Diego, California, USA - MAR 15, 2015
On draft at the brewery. Copper color, with an off white head. Sweet, boozy, caramel, and raisin. I’m not a huge fan. GarrettB (1658) - San Diego, California, USA - FEB 27, 2015
July 10th, 2013 - Rough Draft’s Freudian Sip Strong Ale is a deep, auburn color. It’s clear and transparent, save for the waves made by condensation on the glass, and the low halo of foam circling the inside edge of the glass. The aroma and flavor match nicely: a mild maltiness, a heavy booziness, and the flavor of honey covered peanuts. It’s a slow, drinkable beer that needs short sips, but each sip is its own reward. Bottle pour. Cloudy copper amber with a large creamy tan head. Aroma is strong alcohol, toffee, and caramel. Creamy medium body. Toffee, coffee, and light alcohol taste. Small bitter aftertaste.

Looked great. Aroma was intriguing. Flavour a little disappointing. Surprisingly bitter, but decently balanced. I found it a better beer for tastings & pairings than a straight drinking beer.
