Black pour at home. Definately spicy and a huge beer. Hoppy, fruity, and has a pretty bitter finish, not sure i’d have this one again. Intersting beer. Christpuncher (3191) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - JAN 24, 2015
A very hoppy rye ale. Tastes like a barrel aged stout. Very sweet and syrupy flavored. Bitter finish pours black in flavor. Had at kasers

Pours a hazy brown/ black with a tan head. Nose is black licorice, earth, unsweet chocolate, and some spicy rye. Flavor is similar with rye, black licorice, earth, and unsweet chocolate. Light to medium in body and an interesting beer overall.

From the bottle, it’s extremely dark chocolate brown with loads of dense, dark tan foam that leaves some laciing. Aromas of intense caramel, chocolate roastyness and rye. It’s bittersweet, dark chocolate and caramel, with a rye and hop twang blending well, with a roasty, slightly acidic finish. The carb is lively, but serves well, as it holds up well with warming. jcartamdg (3522) - Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA - FEB 13, 2014
Pours jet black with a big off white head. Aroma of malt, roast and slightly muted hops. Taste is bitter dark chocolate, roast and bitter hops. Very bitter, roasty. Not easy to drink. OKplus (787) - Oklahoma, USA - JAN 18, 2014
750ml served in a DFH IPA glass
A - Pours black with brown hued edges, a thick 2 fingered head stands tall and frothy. The glass stays coated with mocha lacing and the head shows impressive retention.
S - Roasted malt, leafy green hops, brown bread crust, peppery, toasted rye
T - Sweet roasted malts, creamy chocolate at first then turns slightly scorched, some citrus lurking underneath sharp rye grains, the roast is mild at first but grows along with the rye, and leafy green hops. It’s like all the components come together and build growing stronger toward the finish, ultimately choking out all sweetness. Finishes dry with a spicy citrus bitterness.
M - Medium/heavy weight with a fuller body, moderate carbonation, creamy, Lots of hop resin left on the aftertaste.
Great stuff here. I tried to sip it but I found my self drinking this like a session beer. It’s a big transition beer from start to finish. Great showcasing of the rye as well. I really enjoyed this brew and will definitely buy again.

750 ml bottle poured a clear dark reddish brown with a lasting tan head. Aromas of roastiness, rye, bakers cocoa, pine, earthiness and light grapefruit zest. Palate was medium bodied and crisp with a dry finish. Flavors of roastiness, earthiness, rye, pine and light grapefruit zest with a crisp dry lingering bitter finish. umich03jm (3513) - Flat Rock, Michigan, USA - DEC 20, 2013
750 ml bottle thanks to soonerchamps. Pours black with a big fluffy head that fades slowly and leaves chunky, soapy lacing. Aromas are licorice, dark bread, musty grass, pine, and black rice. Taste is very grainy with lots of licorice and a fairly strong bitterness. Good fresh grass and pine hop taste as well. Huge spicy rye finish that lingers very long with the pine as well. Very cool and unique beer. I don’t think I’ve had anything like it. Highly recommend giving it a try.
