On tap at Round barn tasting room Union Pier. Brown with ruby lowlights and a medium tan head. Aroma of grains, raspberry, barley and light cocoa. Taste of black raspberry, light chocolate, caramel and sweet malt, Ok.

Tap at tasting room: Nearly opaque with amber highlights around the edges, small frothy head and spotty lace. The aroma has notes of roast, ash, toast, caramel, tobacco, leather and earthiness yeast esters along with just a slight nose of black raspberry. The taste is pretty much your basic stout, toasty and charred with some coffee and chocolate influences. Herbal and grassy bitterness peaks about and you got a bit of twangy fruit acidity on the back of palate, some tannin notes too. The mouth feel is light to medium bodied with an ashy dry almost woody finish. Well a solid enough stout but I was expecting much more, more fruit and more chocolate character. I was told that the keg the weekend before at the fest displayed a much stronger Black Raspberry profile. I wish I would have gotten that. (STOUTIE RATING # 1111)
