Dark brown/black pour. Aroma is a nice blend of roasted malt and grassy and resinous hops. Flavor is chocolate and roasted malts, with the grassy and resinous hops coming through again. Medium bodied. Overall a decent black IPA, but a little too mild.

Big bottle from Haskells with commonmac and rosskyle. Nearly black with very thick tan head. Sweet nose with some alcohol. Roasted malt, then very bitter. Pretty poor finish. Not a good beer. commonmac (1370) - Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA - MAR 20, 2015
Large bottle purchased at Haskells. Crazy amount of head in this one. Difficult pour. Black with tan head. Smell is not my favorite but citrus and roasted malts. Taste is primarily bitter with slight caramel and roasted coffee undertones. Really not balanced well. Not one of the best black IPAs on the market. Not my sign. Draft. Clear deep dark brown color, beige head. Nice aroma of bright citrus, pine on a roasty background. Taste is very fruity roast, and the combo works. monk191 (2022) - Portland, Oregon, USA - OCT 25, 2014
An ok black ale, a bit too intense bitterness for us. Pours a nice deep black with a thick brown head. Smells of chocolate covered cherries and coffee. Taste starts slightly creamy and sweet, but is then taken over by hoppiness, with some mint and Rosemary. Lots of after-dinner mint and eucalyptus in the aftertaste. Almost like fisherman's friend cough drops. Had in the bottle.

pretty solid example of an aba. very well balanced between the floral hops, roasty goodness, chocolate, and bitterness. this beer was well received all around, looks, tastes, and smelled good." Scipio (1276) - Palatine, Illinois, USA - JUN 4, 2014
Pours a dark and deep brown with a big, long lasting tan head. The aroma has plenty of roasted malts, to go along with a milder combination of pine and grapefruit, some chocolate and coffee. The taste is very dry. The malts are much more subdued and replaced with strong flavors of lemon as the main theme. I find pine, chocolate, herbal hops, and light grapefruit. Aftertaste consists of lemon and lasts a long time. Medium in body, slick, yet a bit sticky in texture, while about average in carbonation. This one is rather interesting. Its a little different than most you find in this style. Its well worth trying. mikedR (1561) - Gilbert, Arizona, USA - MAR 29, 2014
Nice. Perhaps not roasty enough. I’m getting the hops, but prefer more maltiness in this style. But that’s a nit. Fatehunter (2641) - Corbett, Oregon, USA - JAN 24, 2014
Pours two fingers of light tan head on a dark brown body.
The aroma is roasted malt, burnt lemon and pine.
The taste is burnt malt with a little coffee and some lemon bitterness.
The texture is quite soft and pillowy with moderate carbonation.
An excellent black ale. Trev (2023) - Lakeville, Minnesota, USA - DEC 19, 2013
