Tap. Pours clear brown with a small, frothy light tan head, short retention with light lacing. Aroma is caramel and toast malt, light chocolate notes with earthy hops and dates. Flavor is malt dominant with light hops and bitterness, light fruity esters and a dry finish. Light body and medium carbonation. mu11igan (133) - Davis, California, USA - JUN 12, 2010
On tap at the brewpub. Reminiscent of a porter, with a lot of toasted malt flavors. Pretty dry, but some sweetness does come through here and there. I’ll definitely try it again on a subsequent visit. bb (9695) - Alamo, California, USA - SEP 9, 2009
Draft. mahogony beer with a big light tan head. Light roast and light malt aroma. Roast, toffee, and PNW hop flavor. Medium bodied. Caramel and toffee lingers with light roast and PNW hops. Lubiere (14110) - Ottawa, Ontario, CANADA - AUG 27, 2009
A clear brown ale with a thin moka head. A nice caramel malt and nice floral hops in aroma. In mouth, a classy brown ale with a good dose of c-hops, very floral, caramel, and nice nutty in finale. Very nice. On tap at Russian River Beer and BBQ Revival, August 15 2009. marcus (10472) - Sacramento, California, USA - MAY 5, 2009
On tap at the brewery. This reddish brown ale poured with a decent beige head and a treacle aroma. There’s a pleasant brown ale flavor that is rather dry and leaves chalk on the palate.

Poured hazy dark brown, smooth, malty, nutty, little herbal hops, dry finish. AgentSteve (1647) - SF Bay Area, California, USA - APR 9, 2009
Pours deep hazy brown with a tan head. Nose is subtle and nutty. The flavor is more full and enjoyable, also smooth and nutty. DYCSoccer17 (3705) - Woodland, California, USA - APR 4, 2009
On cask at the brewpub. 16 ounce sample. This has a pretty hoppy, herbal, floral aroma with some light chewy caramel malts. Aroma is different, but not bad. Transparent dark amber body with some garnet hues present. Has a strong, bubbly light tan head. Wow - very herbal, hoppy flavors present immediately. There is a bit of chalkiness in the middle without a whole hell of a lot else. Some light diacetyl comes through later on. Finishes with an herbal, mildly bitter finish. Not a huge fan of this brew. bhensonb (15493) - Woodland, California, USA - APR 4, 2009
On cask at the brewpub. 5.8% on the board. Dark brown color (ruby notes) with a large creamy beige head. Aromas of rich roasted malt and citric hop. Medium plus body with creamy carbonation. It’s astringent. Flavors of resin and citrus . Plus underlying roast. More fruitiness arrives in the dryish finish. Reminds me of England. Might be the best brwon ale I’ll ever drink. Cask is good! Overwhelming malt, even for a brown ale. The malt has some good flavor though, but it clashes with the harsh bitterness.
