Tasty, quite sweet. Not much aroma but good flavour, some iron, with a sweet malt, cherry almost overlay. Dark appearance.

Cask Pint at Edward Rayne (JDW), Raynes Park, London in May 2014 - Ruby/Dark Brown in colour. Malty; roasty malts, caramel. Fruity; dry fruits. Hoppy; light grassy hops . Sweet malty fruity leading to a dry mildly bitter finish. Drinkable. Not bad at all, but rather a surprising Champion Beer. (2014-05-13)

My Bottom Line:
Raisin-filled scones, nut bread and dark cherries move into herbal bitterness in this impressive Dark Mild.

Further Personal Perceptions:
-A slice of foam covers the dark red-tinged brown.
-Malts, sugars and yeast profile combine for a tantalizing nose.
-Mouthfeel is healthy; not too lean, not too heavy.
-This is not the type of brew we see very often in North America.
-This must be even lovelier on cask.

Bottle.

Dark ruby colour. Nose malty toffee. Licorice and burnt taste. For strength not bad on palate. All told good. Can see why champion 08-09-11-15.

Cask at WHOAF 2015. It pours deep ruby with a small beige head. The nose is sweet, oily, sticky, boiled sweets, jammy berry, cola cubes, cola ice pole, fruit cake, wood, earth and plum skin. The taste is smooth, bitter-sweet, toasty, earthy, dried fruits, jammy berry, wood, sponge and a touch of charred wood with a dry finish. Medium body and fine carbonation. Smooth and easy-going. Decent depth for the style. Not too shabby.

Cask at The Waterhouse (JDW), Durham, 2.05/pint. Pours deep, reddish brown with lasting, creamy head. Damp, earthy aroma leads to some malty, cereal, caramel and hay flavour with light smokiness. A little thin on the palate and on the whole a simple, effective beer.

Cask handpull at the Flying Pig, Cambridge. Mid- to dark brown with a reddish tinge. Woodsmoke, milky coffee, cinnamon and red currant aroma. Sweet taste with a slight bitter, almost astringent edge. A bit muddly but good overall.
