a really good average stout, suitable for repeatable drinking. would like to have this one local as a regular backup. portableparty (2350) - Blaine, Minnesota, USA - MAR 28, 2011
Bottle to snifter. Pour is dark brown and looks black in glass with a kahki head that fades to a collar/film. Aroma is big bitter chocolate and oats. Taste is nice and bitter sweet with chocolate and cereal notes. Palate is fizzy and slick with a dry bitter finish. Pretty good sweet stout. Tried this beer at the Casanova Beer Cave Festival (2011), this was my favorite beer of the festival, great roast taste. wchesser (2076) - Denver, Colorado, USA - FEB 19, 2011
Dissapointing....thin body for an oatmeal stout. Smells and tastes like ovaltine. Milk chocolate does n TheHOFF43 (2052) - Robbinsdale, Minnesota, USA - JAN 13, 2013
Tap at Old Capital Tavern. Pours almost black with tan head. Taste is bitter coffee and earthy malts with some chocolate. Nice creamy beer.
DalzAle (2037) - Eden Prairie, Minnesota, USA - JAN 15, 2013
Bottle. Dark black pour, a little lasting gray head and an aroma of milk sugar and a little chocolate. Flavor is roasted malt, some sweet sugar and chocolate with a very thin body. Decent beer, wished it was a little more hearty. Stine (1781) - Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA - JAN 6, 2016
Charcoal black with tanned marshmallow, yellow tinted tan foam. Early aroma mostly frozen raspberries. Warmth brings the richer layers of graham cracker crust and cocoa, but the icy, hollow fruit sweetness remains prevalent. There’s a trebly, tangy sensation to these fruit suggestions, of black cherry, blood orange, mixed berry, lacking depth. Later on a little singe of alcohol. dionysus (1486) - Portland, Oregon, USA - FEB 2, 2012
Flavor is composed, but somewhat tepid; quiet chocolate and black cherry fruit, very low char or tannin, no seductive factor here. Instant coffee bitterness nearing the end. Creamy body, soft carbonation, decievingly lightweight. Mouth coating caramelized sugar and cocoa after swallowing. As a hint of rotting banana starts to color the aroma, the blend of sensations proves to be poorly integrated.
Thirsty Troll Brew Fest. Pour is deep brown/black with a khaki head. Aroma is sweet with notes of chocolate, roasted oats, and a touch of coffee. Flavor shows the same with additional notes of vanilla and earth. Overall body is moderate to full and finishes with a nice roasted bitterness. Guerde (1297) - Leuven, BELGIUM - FEB 2, 2011
(bottle) Pours jet black with a large tan head that quickly settles to a medium cap and adequate lacing. Aroma of chocolate, a lot of roasted barley, faint smoke, and some tartness which is regrettable. Caramel corn. Taste is strong of roasted malt, chocolate, slightly burnt chocolate chip cookie, and maybe a hint of dark roasted coffee. High ABV is nowhere to be found. The mouthfeel of this beer is really the standout feature. Very smooth, silky, and full with a nice even roast displayed in the finish. Overall this is a solid stout, and the mouthfeel really makes up for the detrimental aroma. arnold931 (1263) - Iowa, USA - OCT 5, 2015
Bottle. Pours dark brown with tan head. Nose is chocolate and coffee. Taste is powdered milk chocolate and some coffee. Good.
