Dark black pour w/ a whispy head. Weak light lactose and chocolate in the aroma. Nice light chocolate taste lightly bitter coccoa some roasty malts a bit watery for a big beer. Avg pal. Decent, but not memorable.

(bottle) Pours jet black with a large tan head that quickly settles to a medium cap and adequate lacing. Aroma of chocolate, a lot of roasted barley, faint smoke, and some tartness which is regrettable. Caramel corn. Taste is strong of roasted malt, chocolate, slightly burnt chocolate chip cookie, and maybe a hint of dark roasted coffee. High ABV is nowhere to be found. The mouthfeel of this beer is really the standout feature. Very smooth, silky, and full with a nice even roast displayed in the finish. Overall this is a solid stout, and the mouthfeel really makes up for the detrimental aroma.

Bottle at Whistle Binkie’s in Rochester, MN. Pours opaque brown-black with a medium thick and fluffy tan head that recedes steadily. Rings of lacing on the glass. Aroma of sweet chocolate and roasted malt. Medium, creamy body with flavors of sweet malt, milk chocolate and mildly roasty coffee. The finish is chocolatey with a lingering roasty sweetness left behind. Decent overall.

Thanks to Bob for the bottle! Poured clear garnety-brown with a short, somewhat sticky tan head. The aroma picked up sweet cocoa and darker chocolates, with a definite lactose infusion.. sweeter oats and cake on the back of the nose.. smelled delicious, but like it was going to be hard to drink the whole thing. The flavor found sweet, milky chocolates throughout, imbued with a nice earthy complement.. tangy, lactic feel on the back-half of the mouth.. well-balanced, tasty, and easier to drink than the nose indicated. Medium-bodied with moderate carbonation on the palate.. a touch grainy and raw on the back-end, but the alcohol was held in check for the most part.. overall a very good brew.

Bottled. A dark red beer with a thin tan head. The aroma has notes of chocolate, malt, oats, and bread. The flavor is sweet with notes of chocolate, roasted malt, oats, and caramel, leading to a dry chocolaty finish.

Tap at Old Capital Tavern. Pours almost black with tan head. Taste is bitter coffee and earthy malts with some chocolate. Nice creamy beer.

Bottle to snifter. Pour is dark brown and looks black in glass with a kahki head that fades to a collar/film. Aroma is big bitter chocolate and oats. Taste is nice and bitter sweet with chocolate and cereal notes. Palate is fizzy and slick with a dry bitter finish. Pretty good sweet stout.

Pours very dark with decent brown head that fades quickly and not much lacing. Aroma is sweet lactose that is pretty restrained overall and has only a hint of roast to it. Taste is much more sweet than stout - which is fine. Then, a little bit of dark malts and just another hint of roast. Not really any coffee. Palate is noticeably carbonated with a pretty thin, hollow, watery finish - the beer’s only obvious flaw. Still, if this is truly 8%, it’s masked well, and goes down easy.

Tap at Grumpys Roseville. Black. Sweet aroma with lactose I think. Sweet and roasted malt. Some chocolate. Solid.
