War Elephant is as unapologetic as Double IPAs get. At over 4lbs. of hops per barrel, War Elephant contains a completely irrational amount of hops designed to create a unique hop experience. It has a smack-you-in-the-face hop aroma consisting of pine needles, grapefruit, tangerine, and other citrus fruits. Unlike many other Double IPAs, though, War Elephant has a subdued malt character so its never cloyingly sweet, and at 80 IBUs it isnt overly bitter. Like all Rushing Duck beers, War Elephant is unfiltered so as not to strip any of the precious hop aromas from the beer. As a result it has a hazy golden color with a thick rocky head. It is our Fall seasonal, so enjoy the limited release while its fresh!

The name: War Elephants date back the 4th century BC in India where elephants were bred and trained to fight in an elephant cavalry as transport, but also as a weapon used to stampede the enemy. Unconfirmed rumors suggest that the elephants were sometimes given fermented beverages as a means to make them more aggressive as well as feel numb to injuries of war. Rushing Duck Brewing in no way encourages you to feed beer to elephants or any other animal, nor do we encourage animal fightingbut it is a pretty cool story.

Draught @ Albion. Faintly cloudy golden with small foamy whitish head, floral hops aroma, low carbonation, bitter taste with hoppy flavor, thin body, long really bitter finish. The high alcohol has converted into a really bitter brew.

Intense hop aroma; citrus and pine. Clear golden with strong white head. Dank and intense and dank spiked-sharp hop craziness; perhaps the hoppiest beer I have ever had. Really insanely hoppy in flavor, it attacks the mouth. Notes: On tap at One Mile House NYC (Dec 16)

On tap at The Ginger Man, pours a clear golden yellow with a small white head. Aroma brings out a mix of floral, citrus and piney hops upfront, with a sweet and somewhat messy caramel malt backbone. Flavour is similar, with a floral and earthy hop characteristic upfront, and a sweet cereal malt base. A little messy and lacking cohesion but works okay in the end. Decent.

Was excited to try this one. At first I thought I was served the wrong beer. Bartender assured me it was right. Overpowering peppers. Like habanero or jalapeño. Almost like a spicy taco. I can feel the undercurrent of a nice IPA but the peppers are so much. The heat takes away any nice hoppiness. I feel like they had a good start and then jacked it up by adding spicy spicy peppers. Can from a trade, sorry I forgot who. nose is modest in malt sweetness with an orange forward aroma. Slightly hazy orange color with a small white head, great lacing. Taste is juicy citrus fruits, mostly orange and grapefruit. Just enough hop bitterness to balance a semisweet malt backbone to the beer. Finished with some heat from the alcohol. Decent.

Tall boy can via facebook trade. Poured mostly clear, orange amber with a frothy off white head. Aroma is bitter yellow grapefruit, dank hops, cat piss, wet toast. Flavor is similar with lots of bitter citrus, dry grains, fruit rind, cat piss. Big beer that doesnt try to hide it.

Very enjoyable IPA. You get both pine and citrus in the aroma and in the flavor. Bitterness is very enjoyable and clean. They say it is a hazy beer, but it is just hazy. Just enough so that you can enjoy all the hop flavors interbred for you to taste and doesnt taste of grassiness or yeasty.

Small brewery gaining attention from some recent brewery only can releases. From can released 2/4/16 at brewery. Amber in color not too cloudy. Small 1 finger head that fades quickly leaving a slight lacing on the glass. Smell is pungent with citrus tropical fruit dank herb and pine. Taste just like it smells. Like a tropical forest floor. Finishes sweet and not bitter like I would expect from a 8.6abv. Worth seeking out fresh.
