A wee angry scotch ale is part of the Russell Brewmaster Series: a succession of small batch beers that push taste boundaries and explore new styles of beers. This beer has been brewed with a blend of Scottish specialty malts in the style of a 19th century 90 Shilling Scotch Ale - a strong, dark ale with a dominant malt accent that originated in Edinburgh. This batch of beer was brewed by Jack Bensley, Eric Dubuc and Anders McKinnon, Russell Brewing Company 2010.

2011-03-16, draught at Pat’s Pub, Vancouver, 6-4-6-3-13=32
Dark brown color; creamy head. Served too cold, it has a light caramel and roasted malt aroma. Smooth texture; with roasted malt flavor, a bit dusty, and late caramel; light residual sweetness too. Correct bitterness, with a bit more roasty touch in the end. Not bad.

2011-03-04, draught at St. Augustine’s, Vancouver, 6-4-6-3-13=32
Dark chestnut color with some amber shades; creamy head. Classic aroma of the dirty water from the Vancouver city service; very light caramel and apples too. The body is leaner than expected; dry mouthfeel, caramel flavor, with a light ending minty touch; correct bitterness. Just another Brown Ale. Balanced but nothing special.

Tap @ Malone’s. Nice head with good duration. Color is brown. Aroma and taste are caramel, nuts, dried fruits, malt and hops.

mcberko (17854) - Vancouver, British Columbia, CANADA - MAY 28, 2010
Bottle sapled at Firefly, pours golden orange. Aroma and flavour of light butterscotch and caramel malts. Smooth, but standard scotch ale.

Dark brown. Nutty with a little caramel as well. Caramel accent on the palate, and a little nutty. It’s consistent, I’ll give it that. It is actually a more interesting beer than I expected it to be.

Ratman197 (14852) - Arvada, Colorado, USA - NOV 20, 2011
Bomber poured a clear reddish brown with a lingering ring of tan foam. Aromas of cocoa, carmel and toffee. Palate was light bodied and crisp. Flavors of carmel, cocoa and lkight toffee with a crisp lingering malty finish.

One of the better bottles I had in B.C. Only 30 IBU yet good taste from roast and significant smoke. Though a small head on dark brown, good lacing. A decent mouthfeel. Decent drinkability, a bomber was too much for me. Carbonation is right there, and toning that aspect down would have increased smoothness and drinkability to above average for each. Some complexity. Mildly acidic in the finish.

650 ml bottle. Vancouver, BC, Canada.
Dark reddish brown colour with small off-white head. Roasted malt, chocolate, dark fruits and raisins in aroma. Dark roasted malt, chocolate, mild coffee, dark fruits and dark hops in flavour. Quite roasted but balanced. Slightly warming. Rather fizzy.

DuffMan (10436) - the land of bitumen, beef & beer, Alberta, CANADA - JAN 9, 2011
Bottle. Deep russet brown, thick light brown head. Aroma is of dark caramel, with hints of dark fruits. Flavour is a dark caramel with a rummy quality to it, also raisins and light wood. Rum & raisin ice cream came to mind. Medium bodied, nicely flavoured.

jercraigs (10374) - Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - JUN 20, 2010
2010-06-18. Dark ruby tinged brown body, good sized brown head. 4+ Modest aroma, roasty-toasty malt with touches of cocoa and nuts. Flavour is similar, dry toasty malt with mild sweet caramel malt touches. Dry finish. Average plus bodied palate. Decent, but just okay. A bit more of the malty sweetness would be more to my liking. KyotoLefty (10268) - Kyoto, JAPAN - NOV 21, 2015
Bomber. Nice chocolate nose, caramel, touch of smoke. Glowing brown-red color. Malty flavor, some smoke and roast, fudge. bitter, hoppy finish. Very light bodied and a bit too carbonated.
