Bottle. Roasted coffee and chocolate aroma. Dark brown/black porter appearance with a small brownish head. Some lacing. Medium roast coffee flavour with chocolate notes and some hoppy bitterness. Medium body with a sweet finish. Drinkable porter. UXO (1896) - CANADA - MAR 29, 2017
Appearance: clear deep brown with some relief around the margins, one fat finger of fluffy light beige head diminishing gradually to a persistent dense cap, spotty lacing. (3/5) Aroma: mild roasted malts, dry cocoa, nuts. (6/10) Taste: moderate-high sweet, moderate bitter. (7/10) Palate: medium body, moderate carbonation, off-dry mild bitter finish. (3/5)
Not bad, just not very interesting. I was sort of surprised that there wasn’t more complexity on the nose or the tongue, but it’s pretty plain-Jane. There’s not a lot of hop character going on (and maybe it’s an old bottle, but who knows, because - you guessed it - THEY DON’T DATE THEIR DAMN BOTTLES) and the malt is pretty mild and mellow, almost to the point of boring. I guess I’d rather have this than a Guinness, for example, but there’s an awful lot more interesting beers out there. (13/20)

Bottle - Dark roast and chocolate notes. Jet black with a rich light brown head. Dark chocolate and nice roast with a decent finish. Solid. Bierdimpfe (640) - Quebec, CANADA - JAN 31, 2017
Almost opaque black color with a faint copper hue and dense activity. Creamy light brown 2 finger head, lasting around 10 minutes, with good legs. Flavors of mocha, dark berries, cherries, walnuts, caramel, molasses, liquorice, peppercorn, vanilla, herbal spices. Highly sweet of ester fruits, reminiscent of a barleywine feel, while sharp and bitter from roasted malts. Creamy and silky medium body with crispy carbonation. Strong finish but well intensified, dry and chalky while still pleasant, a hint of wood, grassy hops and earthy spices. Quite robust but still pretty fresh, although a bit alcoholic and acidic. Very good taste and a superb finish. Overall excellent quality craft, complex and nicely balanced. tmalaher (303) - Calgary, Alberta, CANADA - SEP 23, 2016
