COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Pliny the Elder was a Roman naturalist, scholar, historian, traveler, officer, and writer. Although not considered his most important work, Pliny and his contemporaries created the botanical name for hops, "lupus Salictarius", meaning wolf among scrubs." Hops at that time grew wild among willows, much like a wolf in the forest. Later the current botanical name, humulus Lupulus, was adopted. Pliny died in 79 AD while observing the eruption of Mount Vesuvius. He was immortalized by his nephew, Pliny the Younger, who continued his uncle’s legacy by documenting much of what he observed during the eruption of Mount Vesuvius. Pliny the Elder, the beer, is brewed with 40% more malt and over twice the amount of hops as compared to our already hoppy IPA.

Orange gold color. Large head. Aroma is floral hops, fruity and sweet. A medium to full bodied Imperial IPA. Malts are fruity and sweet. Hops are grapefruity, piney, floral and citrusy. A remarkably well-balanced IPA. Malts and hops clash and balance with every sip. Hoppy and bitter yet fruity and sweet. Great hop signature. Creamy full mouthfeel. NICE beer. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is bitter.

Bottled on October 10, 2017. Piney, the aroma! Pungent and bright citrus hop scented. Faint sour dough bread. Yeast aroma similar to brie. Pours honey-colored with substantial lingering head and clear reduces to a white lace around the glass through the experience. Not overly bitter flavored with a hint of sweetness. Fizzy and refreshing carbonation softens through the glass. Long bitter and sticky finish. Medium-heavy bodied although seems deceptively light.

On tap @ Monk's Cafe. Intense grapefruit and sweet mango aroma, a fairly sweet malty flavor, finishes with a medium bitterness. Very good IIPA.

UPDATED: OCT 8, 2017 Fat på Gabf. Klassisk dipa doft. Så väldigt balanserad o välgjord dipa. Här finns bra smaker o en god efterbeska men jag saknar något mer smaker för att den ska få riktigt höga betyg. Återdrack den på Fallande klippan o sänker den ett snäpp.

UPDATED: OCT 8, 2017 Fat GABF. Klassisk Dipa doft. Smakar klassiskt rent Dipa.

UPDATED: SEP 28, 2017 Draft at brewery. This is the best double IPA I have had. There is no residual alcohol under taste with a perfect hop balance. I truly enjoy this beer.

Hard to find even in San Diego, Ca. Gorgeous golden color. Delicious tropical, piney, citrus. Too easy drinking. Outstanding!

On tap at Monk's Cafe in Philadelphia. OK, I have been chasing this brew for years! Finally, caught up to it at Monk's in Philly, my favorite beer bar of all time. Brassy gold pour. Smallish, creamy beige head. Sweet, citrus hop nose. Dank, citrusy hop notes out of the gate. I'm juiced! Expecting a huge hop bomb of a DIPA, but no, this is a smooth, slick, approachable DIPA. Full of hop flavor, yet easy drinking and truly delicious. Thanks to my bride for letting me finally catch this brew on the night we celebrated our 29th wedding anniversary at Tinto. It was a short, brisk walk to Monk's on this special evening. She is a real trouper!!!!

Hard to find any flaws. Really herbal - piny like aroma. Very smooth on the malty profile. A bit carbonated. Deadly drinkable. Bitterness level severe but cultural. Great beer (1 mth fresh).

A classic but subtle DIPA. Fresh and zesty grapefruit and orange hops blended perfectly with soft, sweet malt. Extremely clean and refreshing finish.

Incredible beer. Best IPA that I have had. Have to disclose that I have only been drinking IPAs for 6 months. Also important to note that Monks is amazing!
