Piney resinous full aroma w dark caramel nits of toast complementing. Full mouthfeel with creamy edges. A massive beer packed into a tight sub6 body. Some strong hop binding to the tongue but not as much as other brews potentially using hop oils. Artful. MatSciGuy (907) - Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA - APR 6, 2011
[Growler] sent by kmweaver. Thanks Ken! So... I’ve never had a rating that’s been so glaringly close to one of Ken’s. I feel really exposed and inadequate comparatively... However, I assume I have a slight departure from his - I’ve now drank about 3/4 of the growler and as such have a slightly different perspective. That being said, this beer smells great! Lots of fresh hops - clear, crisp pine, reminding me of going up to my grandma’s house in Deer River, out in the middle of the Itasca State Forest. There’s a touch of citrus, but mostly this is just straight woody resinousness and perfectly vegetal fresh hops. The pour is a clear gold, well carbonated, and leaves beautiful resiny lacing on the side of the glass. The flavor is just exactly what I was hoping for - the hops are center stage, the malts are there in the background, not providing significant flavor other than a slight crackery character, but just providing the right amount of body to float the hop flavors over your tongue. The carbonation is lively but soft and appropriate for the beer. The finish is moderately bitter and as I breathe out it’s just the most refreshing, intoxicating, and unadulterated fresh hop character; supremely drinkable. Exactly what I want right after a shitty day of work following several other shitty days of work. chibuck (3513) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - MAY 1, 2011
Thanks to Sean for this fresh growler... this is very similar to Hoppy Birthday but not as hoppy... bright gold body, looks good... the nose is really wonderful fresh and vibrant hops with some great pine and floral notes, nose is close to HB... taste is where HB is just so much bitter, the hops aren’t as strong but this is still to good and crushable... try this daknole (11049) - Scottsdale, Arizona, USA - APR 1, 2012
Pours a nice light amber, white head. Aroma is nice and hop forward. Citrus, grapefruit peel. The hop aroma is delicate and the yeasty/malt chararcter of the malt shines well. Flavor is crisp, lightly bitter, so delicate but bold at the same time...yeah I know it doesn’t make sense. So go and drink it...then it will.

UPDATED: MAY 26, 2013 On tap at the brewpub. Pour is slightly hazy golden orange in appearance with a big white head and great lacing. Grapefruity, piney, citrusy, grassy, biscuity, candied fruits, straw, light caramel, lemon zest, and orange peel in the aroma. Taste is citrusy, piney, lightly grassy, a touch of weed, sticky fruits, biscuity, grapefruit, fruit peels, straw, and bready with a medium bitter finish. Medium body with high carbonation. Seriously tasty sessionable APA. kmweaver (3207) - Petaluma, California, USA - MAR 22, 2011
Draft @ Russian River. Pours a bright, clear, golden-orange color; creamy, fine-bubbled white head with good retention and really nice lacing. Nice hop-forward aroma that maintains its dryness: orange, some lemon peel, if a touch hollow at the core (just a touch of staleness, or emptiness is another way to put it). Medium body; medium-high carbonation. Lively, spritzy citrus, light oranges, and mineral hop character, very nicely expressed (fuller than the nose); beautifully smooth and crisp and drinkable; almost like a scaled-up version of the recent batches of Aud Blonde, to my palate (which is a good thing); great pale ale overall. Medium finish: toasty, crips, minerally, and nicely dry. GT (10000) - San Diego, California, USA - FEB 12, 2012
Tap at Russian River. Clear golden to light orange with a sheety lacing white head. Perfect appearance for style- amazing lace. Fresh, tropical hop nose with hints of lavender and mango. Taste is super clean, moderately soapy, dry, floral bitters. Not as thick biscuity as the Aud Blonde, which I think is a bit better. Better palate- less soap. Excellent herbal bitterness.

Pours golden yellow with a white head. The aroma is shockingly dry and hoppy with some spicy pine and eucalyptus. The flavor is hugely bitter with some minerals, pine, fresh citrus and a hint of grainy bread in the finish. Nicely effervescent, yet not overly so. This is probably the dryest APA I’ve ever had.
