From the 12/2013 3R6P gathering +++ Sampled from a 16.9 oz brown bottle this beer poured a black color with a medium sized foamy tan head that lingered and left good lacing. The aroma was cola, malt and hints of cherry and vanilla. The flavor was woody and roasty with notes of cola, malted milk and a hint of smoke. Medium length finish of roasty wood, cola and smoke. Medium body. Ok. gunnfryd (14869) - Kristiansand, NORWAY - JAN 3, 2014

Bottle at home. Appearance in my HF tulip is black with a big frothy brown head and great lacing. Marshmallows, cocoa, woody, coffee, leathery, earthy, molasses, and tar in the aroma. Taste is so smooth and roasty - black licorice, leather, brown sugar, big marshmallow sweetness, dark chocolate, espresso and anise. Syrupy mouthfeel with soft carbonation. Seriously tasty beer and right up there with the best of porters. Nice! daknole (11049) - Scottsdale, Arizona, USA - NOV 17, 2013
GABF. Dark brown pour, brown head. Really nice beer! Roasty and some smoke. The smoke isn’t over the top at all. Molasses, raisins, dark bread. Damn fine brew. nimbleprop (8376) - SouthWest, Washington, Washington DC, USA - OCT 21, 2013

On tap @ GABF. Black pour with a large tan head. Aromas of roasted malt, dark chocolate, coffee, and licorice. Some mild ash, toffee sweetness, and a hint of graham cracker. Maybe some dark fruits. Nice vanilla, toffee, and graham cracker sweetness to the flavor. Some dark fruit, bitter chocolate, ash, and roasted malt. Nice coffee, too. Dr_MedievAle (214) - Alabama, USA - OCT 13, 2013
Poured at GABF. Incredible fresh, roasted malts and coffee on nose. Bitter chocolate and punchy roasty flavor. Smooth and creamy mouthfeel with clean finish. An excellent fresh beer. My love of barrel aged stuff made me forget the virtues of fresh beer. RR made me remember. boFNjackson (4201) - Portland, Oregon, USA - OCT 11, 2013
Bottle... Poured dense, pitch black with a moderate khaki head. Nose aroma of cocoa and grains. Not overly roasty, thick mouthfeel, yet any alcohol heat was tame on this one. Hint of char and smoke too that gave way to some coffee and mild chocolate. Really tasted nice.
