Brought this to Epic Tres. Pours a murky, dull brown in color with about a half fingers worth of off-white/light yellow colored head. Nose is pretty tannic, with a fair amount of maltiness from the Belgian base beers. There is also a touch of woodiness to it as well. Taste is heavy on the red wine character, especially on the black cherry, blackberry, and currant front. It is pretty dry. Light mouthfeel, light carbonation, very little acidity, and dry. Decent beer, was hoping it would be a lot better. I’m beginning to think dark sours aren’t really my thing. Wish more of the sonambic would’ve come through.

A - Pours murky brown with a nice one finger tall off white head, quickly dissipating down to a light film and eventually a ring around the edge, leaving small streaks of lace on the sides of the glass.
S - Smells of dark fruits, toffee, caramel, oak, wine grapes, leather, a bit of musty barnyard funk, cherrie skins and some lactic sourness. There is definitely some oxidation there but not as much as I was expecting there to be.
T - Starts off with the cherrie skins and dark fruits quickly being joined by the woody oak, wet leather, toffee and caramel sweetness, wine grapes, light must and funk and some light oxidation. Finish is quite dry, lingering long after the finish.
M - Medium body with moderate carbonation. Sweet feel initially goes quite dry at the end of each sip. Booze only really creeps in once it fully warms up.
O - After hearing how much this had fallen off I was expecting a lot worse so this was a pleasant surprise. Yes it was definitely showing its age but it is hardly as bad as many people make it seem. I wouldn’t age it any further if you have one, drink it before it really does go off the cliff.
Corked bottle. Amber color. Vinous aroma with lemon lime, grapefruit and plums. New oak. Oaky vinous flavor. Lemon. Leather. Very bretty. Full bodied. Alcoholic. Amazing complexity.

A- Pours a foggy orangey red hue with a thin head that fades fairly quickly.
S- Cherries, hints of sour apple, deep dark maltiness, bready.
T- Hints of berry, light fruit, strong tart/sourness on the back end. very bready.
M- Medium bodied with quite a bit of carbonation.

Bottle: thanks, Mike! Murky copper color, some slight orange hints with a khaki tinted head that fizzles away to a collar pretty quickly. Aroma has notes of cherry skins, mild vinegar, sharp acidity, lightly vinous oak, & an undercurrent of cotton & hay-like funk notes, seemingly like Brett. Taste has a quick hit of tart acidity & sweettarts up front with notes of apple skins, cherries, & vinegar. There’s a mild perfume essence to the beer, as well. The tartness quickly fades into a subtle sweetness, finishing with some oak & vinous grape-like flavors. Overall, a very nice beer, though I do not believe it lives up to the hype it has been given. Bottle. Pours a cloudy amber orange color with a light white head. Grape, oak, fruit, a little orange rind, and some floral notes. Medium mouthfeel. Nice carbonation. Tart but not overly sour, orange fruit, oak with some bitterness. The Brett comes out nicely. All in all this ones together nicely! In short: A monster farmhouse, vinous and tannic copper ale of great complexity.
How: Bottle 750ml. Consumed with some age on it (around 5 years I guess). Bottle sent to me by Bobby91w, thanks a lot Bobby
The look: Cloudy copper body topped by a large beige head medium retention.
In long: Nose is intensely farmhouse, horse blanket, old barrels, stinky feet and all... Body is full and with a very lively carbonation. Taste has sour fruits, plenty of oak, strong vinous character, a whole lot of tannins, lactic acid, milky notes, grape skin, cookies, caramel, some cheesy notes. Medium sourness level and very astringent. Strong barrel presence to say the least. Finish is very dry with a sawdust-woody sensation. This is the type of beer you need to drink with a pint of water on the side, very mouth drying. Alcohol is a no-show in this 10%+ brew, I drank a full 750ml way too easily. A bit of cardboard but overall not a lot of oxidation despite the age, but with a beer this age each bottle will be different depending on how it was stored. My trader assured me the bottle was kept in cellar condition so my bottle was probably as good as it gets for this particular beer. I could feel the beer is past its prime yet I thought it was excellent, this beer must have been mind blowing a few years ago. Any bottles left should be consumed asap, I don’t want to sound too alarming but beep beep beep beep beep beep beep beep beep beep beep beep beep beep beep beep beep beep beep beep.
