UPDATED: OCT 30, 2013 Gravity cask at the Wandsworth Halloween Festival 2011. Pours dark brown with a foamy, light tan head. Subtle roasted malt aroma, some sugary chocolate. Flavor is very sweet, modest cocoa and roast, some toasted sugars, light caramel. Medium bodied with fine carbonation. Sweet finish, very faint vanilla, alcohol and bitterness, plenty of dark sugars, pretty fun to drink. (3.7)fiulijn (21516) - Vancouver, British Columbia, CANADA - JUL 11, 2012
Cask at The Windsor Castle Inn during the RateBeer Black Country Bus Bash. Pours clear, red-brown with a creamy beige head. Tangy dark malts on the nose, which don’t bode well. Light to medium sweet flavor with chocolate, tangy dark fruits and light dirt. Light bodied with fine, creamy carbonation. Further tangy dark malts on the finish, mild cocoa and dirt. Not awesome. Black color with generous head. Pleasing aroma of roasted malt, dark chocolate and cream. Good body, round mouthfeel; very good chocolate flavor, creamy; the final is just a bit drier and metallic.
Overall a very good beer.
Cask at the Windsor Castle, Lye on the RB bus basheroo, 06/07/13.
Dark mahogony brown with a good sized light tan head.
Nose is light roast malts, bitter notes, dark toffee, light acidic waft - how very queer!
Taste comprises lightly soured dark fruits, dark toffee, touch roasted malt, dates.
Medium bodied, fine carbonation, dry roast finish.
Average - came over a little soured, was it past its best ? I’d expected more from this one on home territory. harrisoni (19553) - Ashford, Kent, ENGLAND - DEC 27, 2009
Bottle at Chriso’s Kook Tasting 09. Thanks to my colleague Jenny who brought this back from the pub in Stourbridge for me. Black, brown edges. Thin beige head. Decent stout. Very tasty. Really drinkable stout. Dry stout. Lovely UK stout aroma. Fullish in mouth, touch of vanilla, bit grainy on the malts, but good roast malt. Lovely. TBone (18561) - Pori, FINLAND - AUG 16, 2009
Opaque black color, small beige head. Sticky aroma of tobacco ash and glue. Quite sweet: molasses, plums, some dark malts. Sticky flavor, not very plesant. Lingering toasted sweety aftertaste.
